POV: You grew up around racing and realized the race moms were never just moms to their own kids.
The race moms are a different kind of special. They are the heart of the pits, the calm in the chaos, and somehow the people holding everything together while making it look easy. Long before the bikes fire up or the helmets go on, they are already awake making sure everyone has what they need. Packing coolers, loading gear bags, fixing jerseys, braiding hair, cleaning goggles, making breakfast, calming nerves, and reminding these kids to have fun before anything else.
But the thing about race moms is it never stops at their own family.
If a kid crashes, they run.
If a little one is crying, they kneel down beside them.
If someone forgot gloves, water, snacks, tear offs, or anything else, somehow a race mom always has it.
If a rider is nervous at the line, they’re the first ones encouraging them.
If a child is sitting alone, they make room in their chairs, under their canopy, and in their hearts.
At the races, there is no “that’s not my kid.”
Race moms love every child out there like their own. They celebrate every finish line no matter where a rider places. They cheer just as loud for the kid finishing last as they do for the one winning the overall. They are there for the good races, the bad races, the tears, the excitement, the injuries, the victories, and every little moment in between.
People see the trophies and the pictures from race day, but they don’t always see the moms behind the scenes making it all happen. They don’t see the late nights washing muddy gear and doing laundry until midnight. They don’t see the early mornings running on little sleep just to get everyone loaded up and out the door. They don’t see the sacrifices, the stress, the worrying, the hours spent driving, or the way these moms put everyone else before themselves over and over again.
And somehow, even while carrying all of that, they still manage to show up with a smile and enough love for every kid around them.
That is what makes the racing community so special. These moms have created something bigger than racing. They’ve created a family. A place where kids grow up surrounded by support, encouragement, and people who truly care about them. So many kids at the races know they can walk up to any race mom if they need help, a hug, advice, water, food, or just someone to listen. That kind of love is rare, and it deserves to be celebrated.
To every race mom out there, thank you will never be enough. Thank you for every mile traveled, every muddy pair of boots by the door, every snack packed, every tear wiped away, every loud cheer at the finish line, every hug after a hard race, and every sacrifice made so these kids can chase what they love.
Thank you for being the kind of moms who make every kid feel important. Thank you for treating this racing community like family. Thank you for being the safe place, the loudest cheerleaders, and the biggest hearts at the track.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible moms in our racing family. The races would not be the same without you, and neither would these kids 🤍
