Does the company you currently own or work for have lackluster IT support? I am setting a goal of 50 support seats for 2022.
I'm trying to undo the mass support problems that large support companies face. I'm doing this by staying small and private, offering over 20 years of professional experience.
There's all kinds of business IT setups but there's only one right kind of setup. I'm here to make sure that happens.
Offering referral/finder's fees, PM to discuss.

So of all the blackouts expected for July 4th, one seemed to be truly memorable. The South End was without power, unconfirmed sources say somebody hit a transformer. Which transformer it was is also originally unconfirmed but as news of the cause spread I was relieved to learn that Optimus Prime was safe.

As an employee or business owner of a bar at that critical moment if your POS was blacked out too I’m sure the experience and revenue lost was frustrating. As many of you are aware there are simple solutions to ensure your POS is running during power outages so you can close tabs. Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) (sometimes called a battery backup) are a standard in the IT industry and having personally installed them for the largest to smallest of requirements they cannot be overstated.

Each POS station should have a fairly common sized UPS, which typically allows for 20-30 minutes of runtime. The more power it draws, the bigger the need. The “brain” or server if your POS uses a standalone server, require more and should be setup to run for at least an hour while the power is out. The network connection (switch and/or router) should have a UPS. I also suggest one critical station have a longer runtime in case the initial 20-30 minute window runs out so you can keep closing tabs. An hour is usually a good goal for that station.

The last thing I should mention is just like any battery they only last for so long. Your battery backups should be replaced every three years for optimal uptime.

As an IT consultant I provide this information freely. I do offer to order and setup backups for clients but since it really is just “plugging something in” in the most direct way my goal is to inform here pro bono. If you have any questions feel free to call me at 843.694.2813 or email me at [email protected]!

Fight the power (outages)!

Macs can be just as vulnerable as Windows.. the big issue here is there were multiple releases made after this was known that didn't plug the hole. No need for alarm but this means that a program can do "whatever it wants" if it asks the right way. This would bypass the security native to Macs (user permissions/sandbox).

TL;DR The Admin framework in Apple OS X contains a hidden backdoor API to root privileges. It’s been there for several years (at least since 2011), I found it in October 2014 and it can be exploite...

Since I am posting about laptops I have recommended a few of these. Great for portable recording laptops, photoshop or other stronger applications.

They're 300-350 depending on which model (6540b-6570b) and kick ass for the price, your best bet is to find one used.

I recommend an SSD (100-200 dollars depending on size) and 4gb of ram additional if using it for studio or heavy lifting.

They're i3/i5 series intels, have a nice aluminum finish and after drive upgrades only run 400-500 bucks used. Normally would be over 1000 new for the same specs.

The blue part in the middle is the actual chip. It needed to be removed in order to further inspect the CPU.

Updated the site a bit today. I have so much I want to do to it (and should, it's the face of my business) but busy working on client jobs. Not a bad problem to have!

Working with facebook can be odd sometimes, I know nothing is free in this world but promoting a page (and having your "fans" deal with limited access to posts without it, even if someone already liked the page) is awkward.

Basically this might not show up on your news feed unless FB feels it's relevant or if I pay to promote it. I found a good article on the subject, trying to hunt that down now.

Mmm. Facebook settings won't allow you to do intracapitalization. Close enough for now (f&b IT) vs (F&b I T) for our name although if I was super concerned about branding at this stage as a company I'd be rather annoyed.
