Plastic has never been one of my favorite materials that I've encountered. It pollutes, kills animals, and some types are toxic to humans. Learning to 3D print has opened my view about plastic. If it is handled the right way, it can be reused over and over again. This is what we call recycling, right? After countless hours of sleepless nights, and research, I have found a way to reduce my waste and reuse as much as I can... also reduced my budget spending by taking the time and doing the research. $2,400 filament maker, recreated for $50 and spare parts laying around.

Learning was fun, hard work, and worth the effort. I finally have a reason to play with my electronics again. Custom-made nightlights and lamp shades might just be a possibility in the future.

Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF), most commonly known as 3D printing, is a process where a thin line of thermoplastic material is continuously extruded from a heated source layer by layer until the desired object is fully made. Objects are created with the assistance of a combination of programs and firmware. these are computer-aided drafting (CAD) programs, slicers that turn your 3D image into layers, and the G-code computes plotting points to achieve the desired image, layer by layer. This is similar to what CNC machines use to mill out metal parts. Like the traditional paper printer, the 3D printer has an X(left, right) and Y(top, bottom) axis, but has an extra axis(Z up, down) which gives it the ability to print in a 3D realm.
