South Central Alabama Broadband Commission

South Central Alabama Broadband Commission SCABC governs a broadband communications infrastructure designed to bridge the digital divide in South Central Alabama

The South Central Alabama Broadband Commission (SCABC) is a three year-old cooperative capital district whose purpose is to own and manage a community-owned telecommunications infrastructure that will, through an integrated fiber optic and wireless network, provide high speed connectivity to every home, business, and governmental agency in the South Central Alabama district. The SCABC infrastructu

re will serve the residents and corporate entities of Bullock, Butler, Choctaw, Conecuh, Crenshaw, Dallas, Escambia, Green, Hale, Lowndes, Macon, Montgomery, Morengo, Perry, Pickens, Sumpter and Wilcox and the Poarch Band of Creek Indians. Officially formed on January 28, 2011, the SCABC will leverage private and public resources to focus on this traditionally underserved market and leverage a subsequent incremental investment to give its community access to a broader market through "Next Generation Broadband Technology". Call your congressman or senator and tell them to support the SCABC.

Hospitals and healthcare services are well known economic drivers in small cities and rural areas. Adding broadband infrastructure to the mix can leverage better services – and more jobs.
