Jean-Baptiste Kempf, the creator of VLC Media Player, turned down offers worth tens of millions of dollars just to keep VLC completely free and ad-free for everyone. No pop-ups, no tracking, no hidden fees... just pure, reliable software that works for all. In an age where everything is monetized, he chose principles over profit.

VLC began as a student project in France and became one of the world’s most trusted media players - open-source, transparent, and built by a global community of volunteers. Kempf could have sold it to big tech companies years ago... but he believed the internet deserved something honest.

While others chase money, he’s proving that real success is creating something that helps millions without asking for a dime in return. True innovation doesn’t always come from corporations... sometimes it comes from people who just care about keeping things free.
