Removing protective films, transferring components, and final handling can all generate static charge on plastic materials. That charge can attract particles to critical surfaces, even inside a properly operating laminar flow hood.

Our blog explores where static develops throughout medical device assembly and how integrating static control into hoods and workstations can help reduce contamination, rework, and production interruptions.

Our favorite time of year has come and gone again!

For the past two weeks, the Simco-Ion team came together for our annual United Way campaign. From bowling and co****le, to wellness walks and food drives, each activity gave us a chance to connect, while raising funds and supporting our community.

Thank you to everyone who participated, donated, and helped to make these last two weeks a success 💙

Static-related problems often begin long before material reaches the extruder.

During pneumatic conveying, friction can charge plastic pellets, causing them to cling to equipment surfaces, attract dust, bridge in hoppers, and flow inconsistently.

The downstream effects can include:
⛔ Feed interruptions and inconsistent dosing
📉 Die-pressure fluctuations
📏 Gauge and dimensional variation
🔍 Gels, bubbles, and contamination
⏱️ Increased scrap, downtime, and troubleshooting

By neutralizing static where it develops, manufacturers can stabilize material flow and improve overall equipment effectiveness.

Your laminar flow hood may be controlling airborne particles, but what about dust and debris?

Understanding where static develops in the process is the first step toward reducing contamination risks.

Watch below how everyday handling in medical device assembly can generate static on plastic components, attracting dust and debris to critical surfaces.

A little rain couldn't stop us from enjoying a sweet treat ☔🍦

We kicked off the holiday weekend a little early with an ice cream truck visit for the team, and it was a fun afternoon getting to spend some time together.

Wishing everyone a safe and relaxing Labor Day weekend!

Could static electricity be affecting your automotive paint quality?

Static can build on plastic bumpers, fascias, and other exterior components throughout molding, sanding, cleaning and handling. These processes attract dust and debris before the part ever reaches the paint booth.

Our latest blog explores where static develops in the automotive painting process and how controlling it can improve surface cleanliness, finish quality and production efficiency.

A laminar flow hood controls airflow, but it doesn't stop static.

During medical device assembly, handling and friction can generate static charge on plastic components and other materials. Even in a controlled environment, that charge can contribute to:

🧲 Particle attraction
🦠 Surface contamination
🔍 Increased inspection and rework
❌ Higher reject rates
📉 Inconsistent product quality

Managing static inside the laminar flow hood can help reduce particle attraction and support cleaner, more consistent assembly.
