Scam alert: fake “Connecticut DMV citation notice” texts are going around.
I got one today and I called to verify it. The Connecticut Judicial Branch Centralized Infractions Bureau (CIB), the office that handles traffic infraction payments, confirmed they do not send payment demands by text, and they do not have access to your phone number. The DMV has also warned these texts are fraudulent and not from them.
What to do if you get one:
Do not click the link.
Do not reply.
Delete it and block the sender.
Report it as junk or spam.
If you are worried you might actually have a ticket, check it the safe way: use the Connecticut Judicial Branch Centralized Infractions Bureau (CIB) online portal.
If you already clicked and entered any info, change your passwords right away and watch your accounts.
