Do you have a plan, or is your plan to get lucky? All the scouting, checking cameras, and hours in the woods come down to moments like this. Nothing better than seeing it pay off on a buck you’ve been watching all year. Who else has one they’re hoping to catch up with this season? He also on occasion puts giant elk to sleep.

Is this a step too far? Should you have to buy the “privilege” to bait deer on land you own? What are your thoughts?

Tennessee now allows hunting deer over bait on private land but requires hunters to purchase a separate privilege to do it.

That raises a bigger question:

Other than regulating how many deer are harvested, how much say should government have in HOW you hunt on your own property?

If you own the land, pay the taxes, and want to harvest a deer for your family, should government care whether you use a bow, r***e, crossbow, or a pile of corn? Should anyone care?

If someone works 60 hours a week and wants to shoot a doe for the freezer, should the state dictate the method or even the hours they can hunt?

Disease transmission is one argument against baiting, but deer naturally congregate around food, still water, scrapes, and licking branches anyway.

Wildlife is a shared resource, so regulating harvest makes sense.

But should the government also sell you the “privilege” to decide how you hunt on your own land?
