Do the right thing, even when no one is watching.
It’s a pretty simple idea, but it applies to a lot of what we do.
There are hundreds of little things in IT that a client may never see.
The label on the back of a cable.
The documentation showing where everything connects.
Testing a cable even though it seems to be working.
Cleaning up an equipment rack instead of just getting everything online.
Updating a diagram after making a change.
Taking the extra few minutes to fix something you noticed along the way, even though it wasn’t the reason you were there.
Most of those things will never show up on an invoice. Nobody is standing over your shoulder checking to make sure you did them.
But they matter.
Because six months or three years from now, someone is going to open that rack, troubleshoot that connection, or try to understand why something was done a certain way.
That’s when the work nobody noticed becomes important.
We’ve always tried to make this part of the culture at LEFCON.
Do the right thing, even when no one is watching.
Do it right.
Document it.
Leave it better than you found it.
Not because someone is checking.
Because that’s how it should be done.
