Recently, a client asked me what a save the date was, and what was the purpose of it. A save the date is a preliminary announcement you sent to guests to let them know your wedding date before the formal invitation goes out.

Then she asked me if they save the date had to match the theme of her wedding. My answer was no. I tell everyone to have fun with the save the date, let the couples personality shine through the save the date. You want your guests to get excited when they open that envelope. You want them to save your date!
