Hackers are always trying to find new ways to get in and steal personal data, and it looks like they found a new one. It’s in the session information in your cookies. Cookies are small files that websites deposit on your hard drive, kind of like place markers. They store information about what you might’ve done at that website and even store cached credential information, including “session” data. That session data is exactly what the hackers are trying to get a hold of. Session information is created when you are authenticated by a website. The Web server assigns a session key and drops a cookie in your browser with that information in it. This session key information is used during your entire website session. It saves you from having to login every time you change pages. If somebody gets a hold of that session key information, they can trick the website into thinking they are you, and potentially perform actions on websites as YOU.

Hackers are always trying to find new ways to and steal personal data, and it looks like they found a new one. It’s in the session information in your cookies.

Finally, Microsoft Teams now has better control over the camera.

Microsoft is solving one of the most irritating aspects of video conferences for Teams users. The software giant has revealed that it is working on a new version that will make it easier for customers to turn on or off their cameras during the call.

Teams users have long suffered from an overly complicated process to turn their cameras on or off. Microsoft 365 parent company claims it is finally resolved which seems to be apparent.

Rather than stumbling around with your mouse or keyboard to bring up the Meeting Stage and then push the Video icon. Now a single click of a button will allow the user to rapidly adjust their video status.

Summer is in full swing, and so many of our clients are traveling! Most people who travel, typically carry a computer, smartphone, or another device with them. These devices are known as endpoints which connect to different networks, whether that be a hotel, a corporate network, public Wi-Fi, or at a conference. Endpoints are the last stage of a network and this makes them the most at risk.

If threat actors can gain access to your specific device, they can then gain access to your corporate network, or your corporate email account which allows them to move laterally through the networks, scan the network from inside, or learn about your company and who your company owes money to. This often leads to ransomware down the line or an expensive corporate phishing exposure. Neither of these are something anyone wants.

Keep yourself, and your company safe this summer by ensuring you are protecting your company’s assets properly.

We would like to take this opportunity to tell you about an important experience.

Recently, we visited a client's warehouse where there was a wireless device that was installed by a previous technician. The wireless device had acted up and had to be reset; however, we needed the name and password for the wireless device after it was reset in order to login and reconfigure it.

Years ago, we would have had to reach out to the previous technician and hope he remembered what credentials he had put in there, or inconvenience the customer to rummage through papers in their desk to try and find this password. Please note, this password might not have even been secure.

YOU NO LONGER NEED TO GO THROUGH THE PAIN AND SUFFERING OF DEALING WITH LOST PASSWORDS. IT'S PART OF OUR JOB NOW, AND GIVING US THAT RESPONSIBILITY ONLY INCREASES YOUR SECURITY!

Today, we simply logged into our IT Glue on our laptop, looked up the credentials the technician had saved when he did his original configuration and reconfigured the device in minutes. We were out the door in time to make our 4th of July picnic!

The moral of the story here is that we don't just support you everyday of the week. We save/archive all your passwords in one of two online systems, both of which are extremely secure. Today most of our clients have trusted us to manage not only their Windows passwords, but their email and other passwords for them, using IT Glue or LastPass password manager.

We don't just do desktop and network support anymore. We are making sure everything is up and running but we're keeping you secure at the password level as well. Desktop Services Group, YOUR TRUSTED IT PARTNER, ALWAYS.

The Follina vulnerability, CVE-2022-3019, that was discovered by security researchers has been given a security patch by Microsoft to mitigate any negative effects of the attack.

Since first being found in late May 2022, Follina has been used notable by the Chinese TA413 hacking group targeting displaced Tibetan communities as well as in phishing attacks against
the US and the EU governments. It has also been abused by the TA570 Qbot affiliate to infect recipients with more Qbot malware.

Attackers who successfully exploit this zero-day can execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the calling app to install programs, view, change, or delete data, and even create new
Windows accounts as allowed by the compromised user's rights.

Microsoft issued CVE-2022-30190 regarding the Microsoft Support Diagnostic Tool (MSDT) in Windows vulnerability. On Tuesday June 14, 2022, Microsoft issued Windows updates to address this vulnerability. It is highly recommended that all Windows systems be updated immediately to help to protect against any new Follina related attacks. Further instructions can be found here:

How Do Cyber Attacks Harm Your Business?

1. Damage Brand Reputation

Following the Colonial Pipeline attack, the company’s name became synonymous with the term ransomware. According to Forbes Insights, 46% of organizations suffered damage to their reputations and brand value as a result of cybersecurity breaches. When critical customer information is stolen, it can be used for identity theft and other kinds of fraud. Your brand reputation will suffer, and you’ll lose customer trust when data breaches become public knowledge. Existing customers may stop using your services, and potential investors will avoid your brand.

2. Downtime

Downtime refers to a major business interruption that results in slowed or halted productivity. Recovery from cyber attacks can take weeks and even months as companies repair networks, devices, and restore backup data. Some data is never fully recovered, and often the downtime is more costly than the ransom payment itself.

3. Financial Impact

Ransomware payments averaged $570,000 in 2021. This figure does not include offer expenses businesses may also face, including legal fees, forensic and IT fees, penalties for not following data security and privacy regulations, and the cost of improving their cyber security to prevent future attacks.

4. Sensitive Data Breaches

DTSG keeps your organization safe from cyber threats. From security awareness training to backup services to incident response, we have in-house experts ready to integrate security solutions to protect your systems.

We can help you recover faster in the event of a breach, reduce interruptions to your business continuity, and create resilience to prevent future attacks.

As a local business owner with an online presence, there’s a good chance you’ve received an “invoice” in the mail for an annual domain listing on an internet directory. While it may seem like a perfectly reasonable invoice seeing as you might own a website domain, it’s actually a scam. These "Domain Listings" companies are predatory frauds designed to trick individuals into paying for a fake service, it’s simply a ploy to exploit people for their money.

At Desktop Services Group, we are always looking out for your best interest, which is why we are informing you about this scam.

Here are a few phrases you can use to identify fake invoices:

‘WEBSITE LISTING SERVICE’—It’s important to note there’s no such thing as a ‘website listing service.’ There are only ‘domain registration’ and ‘website hosting’ in regards to your website domain.

‘DOMAIN NAME EXPIRATION NOTICE’—Unless the invoice is from the website you registered your domain through, you can be confident the invoice is fake.

‘THIS IS NOT A BILL. THIS IS A SOLICITATION. YOU ARE UNDER NO OBLIGATION TO PAY THE AMOUNT STATED ABOVE UNLESS YOU ACCEPT THIS OFFER.’— First and most obviously, this phrase indicates the invoice is not a bill, meaning you do not owe the company anything. Second, and again, unless the invoice is from the website you registered your domain through, you can be certain the invoice is fake.

Make sure to always check out the company information and check for company reviews! If you are unsure or need help, always know you can reach out to our team!
