So, as some of you may know, we distribute the Loricraft Professional Record Cleaners. And for a lot of people, a record run through any record cleaner must now be a clean record. So at a recent event for a few customers, we ran two identical records through the Loricraft PRC4i (their less expensive model). Of these records, one was brand new and sealed. The other was new but had been opened and cleaned twice by another well known “sonic cleaner.”
We opened the brand new copy and played it, then we played the one that had been cleaned twice using the sonic cleaner. New record: sounded good. Record that had been sonically cleaned: sounded better. We then cleaned both with the Loricraft and played them. Both sounded better still. Everyone heard it. Kind of a nerve wracking experiment, but it worked out well in the end. So, owning a sonic cleaner of my own, I decided I’d try the same experiment at home. Same results. The Loricrafts aren’t cheap, but they do a damn good job cleaning records and if you own a sizable or valuable collection, they’re a necessity.
What’s with the filthy water, you ask? That’s what I pulled off of 75 or 100 records that had ALREADY BEEN CLEANED with a well regarded sonic cleaner! (The chunky part floating around is because I went on vacation for 12 days and the gunk congealed and made its own little blob baby).
The sonic cleaner is now sitting, in its box with all of its accessories, free to anyone that wants it, outside of our office front door. No joke.
Want proof? If you’re in Colorado and stop by our office with a record, we’ll clean it for you…just not this week because we’re out visiting dealers in the Midwest.
