That glittery, cartoon logo you have and those AI flyers and websites that look like everyone else’s may be working right now, but in a year you’ll be paying for a new logo and looking for a real person to create a cheap ass site for you because the novelty has worn off and the money has stopped.

These are trends, fads. Simple logos and unique promo is what lasts. FedEx, NBC, Nike, Apple, and CBS haven’t changed their logos in decades!

When I first discovered Iota Phi Theta Fraternity Incorporated, it was on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University as I was working on the grounds crew beautifying the plot with my weedeater. I knew about the D9 and had actually studied the fraternities. But this one, I thought, “this one has red, black, and green in it. That’s different!”

I studied the 12 Black men that created the fraternity, and how they were all grown men and non traditional students, not kids. I studied the principles of Scholarship, Citizenship, Leadership, Fidelity, and Brotherhood. I studied the fact that the organization was founded during the civil rights struggles of the 60s. I became a little obsessed and when the opportunity came for me to join, there was absolutely no hesitation! I became an Iota Man.

Today we celebrate those 12 Black men and their creation. Today we celebrate Most Honorable Founder Lonnie Spruill Jr., the last surviving founder and the last remaining founder of any D9 organization. Today we celebrate my Brown and Gold Brothers in the fold.
