The DIVAS collective has allowed Black women doctoral students and professionals to “stand in the gap” and become the "othermother" (Guiffrida, 2005) for Black women during their PhD process. As DIVAS we understand that the experiences of Black women in academia are very complex and nuanced.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS: The journal, "Dear Higher Education: Letter from the Social Justice Mountain," in partnership with the University of Minnesota Libraries and scholars Dr. Menah Pratt, Dr. Michele C. Deramo, and Dr. Gabriela Torres, is issuing a CFP for a Special Issue on Women of Color in the Academy: Being the Lonely Only.

They invite letters that speak to the experiences of:
*Navigating multigenerational caregiving while building a career.
*Journeying through migrations of geography, identity, and belonging.
*Rising with brilliance yet often defined by others as "less, under, micro."
*Wrestling with imposter syndrome, only to realize the system was built to cast shadows, not reflect light.
*Feeling the burden of a salary differential wrapped in politeness and policy.
*Being the “outsider” who stays or eventually leaves
*Balancing speaking out and being silent
