Today is Global Handwashing Day, and it got us thinking...
Most of us wouldn't think twice about washing our hands after touching something dirty. It's a simple habit that helps prevent problems before they start.
Cybersecurity works much the same way.
Strong passwords, multi-factor authentication, software updates, security awareness training, and regular backups are the digital equivalent of washing your hands. They may seem like small steps, but they help stop malware, phishing attacks, and data breaches before they spread.
The strongest defense often isn't a complicated technology solution. It's consistent, healthy habits.
✅ Wash your hands.
✅ Update your software.
✅ Use MFA.
✅ Think before clicking.
✅ Back up your data.
A few simple actions can make a big difference.
At Piedmont Technical Experts, we're proud to help businesses, churches, nonprofits, and organizations build good cybersecurity habits that keep their teams productive and protected.

# # # 🍰 National Dessert Day and Business Ownership Have Something in Common

The dessert isn't the meal.

It's the reward after the work.

As business owners, we spend most of our days solving problems, serving customers, supporting employees, and handling whatever challenges come our way. There always seems to be another call to make, another email to answer, or another item on the to-do list.

That's why it's important to take a moment and celebrate the wins too.

Maybe it's landing a new client, completing a project, helping a customer, reaching a milestone, or simply making it through a busy week.

Just like dessert, success is a little sweeter when you've put in the work to earn it.

So on National Dessert Day, take a moment to celebrate a win, no matter how small.

**What's one win you've had recently?**

# # # What People Don't See About Running a Business

Most people see the logo, the building, the social media posts, or the finished work.

What they don't see are the early mornings, the late nights, and the constant questions running through a business owner's mind:

*"How do I take care of my employees?"*
*"How do I grow the business?"*
*"How do I keep everything moving forward?"*

When you're running a business, everything seems to land on your plate. As you grow, you learn that you can't do everything yourself. You have to find trusted partners who can help carry part of the load.

That's where we come in.

At Piedmont Technical Experts, we help take technology off your plate so you can focus on running your business instead of worrying about updates, cybersecurity, backups, or whether you're falling behind.

Because being a business owner is hard enough.

The Entrepreneur's Reality Check
One of the most important lessons in business is realizing that no one will ever care more about your company, your goals, or your future than you do.
Along the journey, you'll discover the difference between fair-weather supporters and true partners. Some people will celebrate your wins when things are going well, but real partners stand beside you during the difficult seasons too. They show up when challenges arise, offer support when the path gets tough, and remain invested in your success when there is nothing immediate in it for them.
As entrepreneurs, it's important to appreciate everyone who encourages us, but it's equally important to recognize and invest in the relationships with those who consistently show up, support the mission, and help carry the load.
Build your business with people who are committed to the journey, not just the destination.

Technology should make life easier. But let’s be honest—constant notifications, endless emails, cybersecurity threats, and tech issues can create real stress, especially for business owners, educators, nonprofit leaders, and office teams.

World Mental Health Day is a reminder that amidst all our talk of cybersecurity, cloud services, and networks at Piedmont Technical Experts, our true focus is people. When tech works, it disappears into the background—so you can focus on those you serve, not on IT hassles.

Our mission: reduce tech stress, give you peace of mind, and help you focus on what really matters. This World Mental Health Day, take a moment for yourself: relax, disconnect, and recharge. The work will be there—your well-being comes first.

Take care of your mind, take care of yourself, and keep moving forward.

We often hear: "We're just a local company—why would anyone target us?" The truth: cybercriminals don’t care if you’re in New York or in Lexington, Greensboro, High Point, Thomasville, Burlington, or Winston-Salem. Threats like phishing emails, ransomware, and fake invoices can hit local businesses just as easily as global giants.

Cybersecurity isn’t just a global concern—it’s a local one too. At Piedmont Technical Experts, we live and work right here in the Triad, supporting our community every day. But our monitoring has to be global: we track phishing, business email compromise, ransomware activity, malicious websites, new vulnerabilities, and global threats that may affect local organizations.

Our goal is to keep you protected and confident—so you can focus on serving your community, not worrying about cyber risks.

For many of us, our workday revolves around screens.

Laptops. Multiple monitors. Smartphones. Tablets. Video calls. Email. Reports.

By the end of the day, it's no surprise that our eyes often feel tired, dry, or strained.

On World Sight Day, it's a good reminder that taking care of your vision is just as important as taking care of your technology.

Here are a few simple ways to help reduce eye fatigue:

✅ Follow the 20-20-20 Rule Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.

✅ Take Frequent Breaks Stand up, stretch, and give your eyes a chance to focus on something other than a screen.

✅ Consider Blue Light Filtering Many people find blue light filtering lenses or screen filters helpful, especially when working in front of screens for extended periods or during evening hours.

✅ Reduce Screen Glare Adjust monitor placement and room lighting to minimize reflections and eye strain.

✅ Blink More Often It sounds simple, but we blink less when focused on screens, which can contribute to dry and irritated eyes.

✅ Keep Your Prescription Current If you wear glasses or contacts, regular eye exams can make a huge difference in both comfort and productivity.

As someone who spends plenty of time in front of monitors helping organizations navigate technology, I know firsthand how easy it is to push through eye fatigue and "just finish one more thing."

Today, take a moment to give your eyes a break.

Go for a walk.

Look out the window.

Step away from the screen for a few minutes.

Your eyes work hard every day. They deserve some attention too.

👀 Protect your vision.

đŸ’» Work smarter.
