Backups are one of those things most businesses assume are fine right up until the moment they actually need them.

That is usually when the important questions show up (or just smack you in the face).

Is the data really there? Is it current? Is there more than one copy? Has anyone tested a restore recently, or are we just trusting that the job completed because the dashboard said it did?

What felt like an emerging issue even a few months ago is already becoming a very practical business problem. AI tools are showing up across teams, costs are spreading across different accounts and departments, and many organizations are still trying to get a clear picture of what is actually in use.

Our team is together in Chicago today and tomorrow for the 2026 All In Technology Sales Summit, and there’s a lot more on the agenda than sales.

A big part of these two days is making sure our team continues to understand the technology, security challenges, and industry changes our clients are navigating every day.

That includes deeper sessions with our own security professionals and CISO, Jeff Hathcote, along with insights directly from many of the partners we work with across the IT and cybersecurity landscape.

We’re also fortunate to have AgileBlue, ScanSource, Blackpoint Cyber, WatchGuard, Flexential, and TD SYNNEX joining us and sharing what they’re seeing in the market, what’s changing, and what businesses should be paying attention to next.

It’s a good couple of days to get everyone in the same room, ask better questions, learn from each other, and make sure our sales team understands not just what we offer, but the technology and expertise behind it.

And yes, we managed to get Jeff in front of the camera along the way 😜

One of the most interesting things about the current AI conversation is that even the companies pushing the technology forward are starting to acknowledge how difficult it is to balance speed with responsibility.

Didn't think we would ever see that, but here we are!

That tension is easy to understand. There is enormous pressure to move quickly, release more capable models, and stay competitive, but the guardrails around safety, oversight, and evaluation are still developing at the same time. The result is a debate that feels much more practical than theoretical.

Businesses are dealing with a version of that same issue right now. We are certain about that.

AI can create real gains in productivity, automation, analysis, and decision support, so there is an understandable urge to move fast. The challenge is making sure adoption does not outpace the organization’s ability to manage it well. Visibility, data access, security, accountability, and human oversight all become more important as AI tools start touching more parts of the business.

All In Technology does not see this as a reason to slow innovation for the sake of slowing it. We see it as a reason to be intentional about where AI fits, what it is allowed to do, and how the surrounding environment is managed as those capabilities expand.

That is what made this AP story worth sharing. The bigger question is not whether AI adoption will continue. It almost certainly will. The more useful conversation is how organizations can move forward without creating unnecessary risk or losing control along the way.

One of the harder parts of AI right now is not choosing a tool. It is keeping track of what has already made its way into the business.

AI can spread through individual subscriptions, department-level tools, APIs, embedded features, and personal accounts. Most of that happens for understandable reasons, but once enough of those pieces are in play, it gets harder to answer some pretty basic questions.

What are we actually using?
What are we paying for?
Where are we duplicating capabilities?
Who owns each tool?
What data is moving through those platforms?

That is the main issue behind AI sprawl.
