A customer brought me a PlayStation 5 that was still overheating even after being serviced by another repair shop. If your PS5 suddenly shuts down, displays overheating warnings, or becomes too hot to use, you know how frustrating that can be. After paying for a repair, the last thing you want is to have the same problem continue.

During my inspection, I found that the power supply was packed with dust and debris that was restricting airflow. The heatsink also needed additional cleaning. Liquid metal, an important thermal compound for cooling in PS5โ€™s, was also checked and corrected. Once everything was properly cleaned and serviced, the overheating issue was resolved, and the console was running normally again.

If your PlayStation 5 is overheating, shutting down unexpectedly, or running hotter than it should, I can help get it back to operating the way it should.

Good news for Windows 10 users: Microsoft has officially extended free security updates until October 12, 2027. The previous cutoff was October 2026 โ€” only a few months away โ€” so this extra year gives everyone more breathing room. Itโ€™s a welcome change for households, small businesses, and anyone still running older hardware that isnโ€™t ready for Windows 11.

This extension also buys time for organizations planning their migration strategy. But it raises a familiar question: will users actually upgrade, or will they keep their Windows 10 machines as long as possible? Many PCs still run perfectly fine, and plenty of people arenโ€™t eager to replace hardware just to meet Windows 11โ€™s requirements. Next fall will be interesting.

Not sure if your PC is enrolled in Extended Security Updates (ESU)? Itโ€™s easy to check.

2. Go to ๐–๐ข๐ง๐๐จ๐ฐ๐ฌ ๐”๐ฉ๐๐š๐ญ๐ž โœ…

If you see a message saying โ€œyour device is no longer receiving security updatesโ€ along with an Enroll now link, that means your PC is not signed up for ESU. In that case, your computer is missing important monthly security patches.

For maximum safety and effectiveness, a surge protector should always be plugged directly into a properly grounded wall outlet. Never plug a surge protector into an extension cord, another surge protector, or a power strip. That setup โ€” called daisyโ€‘chaining โ€” can overload the circuit, void the warranty, and most importantly, create a fire hazard.

Yesterday I was on a job where two surge protectors were plugged into each other in a loop. Thatโ€™s exactly the kind of situation that can quietly damage equipment or start a fire without warning.

To fix the issue, I picked up a GE 6โ€‘outlet surge protector extender tap from Office Depot/OfficeMax for $14.99. Itโ€™s compact, plugs directly into the wall, and includes a lifetime $50,000 connectedโ€‘equipment warranty, which is a nice bonus for peace of mind.

At your home or office, take a moment to check how theyโ€™re plugged in. A quick correction now can prevent a major problem later.

I get several calls a week about broken HDMI ports on PlayStation and Xbox consoles. Fixing those usually requires soldering a new HDMI port directly onto the motherboard.

At the moment, Iโ€™m not taking on those repairs โ€” but that will change. Later in 2026, I plan to offer full soldering services for clients.

As I build my professional soldering skills, Iโ€™ll be sharing YouTube videos and blog posts documenting the process, the tools Iโ€™m using, the skills Iโ€™m learning, and the realโ€‘world challenges that come with this kind of work. Stay tuned!
