Quick PSA: Bitlocker must be enabled by the user. It doesn't activate itself.

There has been an issue in the past few years where users have been getting asked for a Bitlocker key, but they never activated or installed Bitlocker themselves.

If you've ever used a work or school account on your computer, however, it's possible they had Bitlocker enabled. This would, in turn, activate it on your computer even if it's just to use Office 365 or other software.

Whichever account has it enabled will also have the key.

Unfortunately, there's nothing we can do on our end to access or recover the data without that key.

A helpful tip for those building their own computer:
Make sure parts literally click into place!

You will hear an audible click for parts your connect to your motherboard, whether it be RAM, PSU cables, GPUs, or more.

If they aren't firmly clicked into place, they won't work!

Please back up your data!

It could be a spill, power surge, hardware failure, or more that destroys your computer. Data recovery is NOT cheap, so it's always better to be prepared.

Store a copy of important documents somewhere safe!

Make sure to take care of yourself!
It's easy to forget to hydrate and rest, but both are important.

We're still in summer, so the heat and humidity will be sticking around for a while. If you aren't careful, it's easy to get overheated while outside.

Get good sleep, as well. You may feel fine after a day or two, but the sleep debt will catch up to you. Try to sleep early for once. It could do wonders for you.

Don't get lazy with your health.

Is a SSD that much better than a HDD?
Short answer: Yes!

SSDs are faster and less prone to failure compared to a HDD due to not having moving parts. They are also smaller, especially the m.2 version.

Many gaming consoles are moving to SSD, as well, to help reduce loading times.

We've said it before and we'll say it again:
Keep any and all liquids away from your computer!

This applies more to laptops, but desktops are not exempt. Even a small amount of liquid can cause damage.

Remember: Motherboards are expensive to replace!

Relax!
You can't change the past, but you can alter the future.

As they say: There's no use crying over spilt milk (even if it's on your laptop)

Accidents will happen. No amount of planning can take everything into account, so it's better to learn flexibility.

If you break your screen, you get it fixed. If the fix isn't possible for you right now, you either use an external monitor in the meantime or buy a new computer.

Don't sit there mad or sad about the fact that something bad happened. Instead, focus on what you can do to improve the situation and let the things you can't impact play out.

You can do this!

Please clean your devices!

Use air to blow out the dust in your keyboard and a microfiber cloth to wipe down your monitor.

It helps keep them in working condition, before it becomes a problem. It also looks nicer.

Diagnostic takes time!

While some may take a few minutes, others can take days. We also usually have a few computers in the shop ahead of you.

We try to diagnose as many, and as quickly, as we can, but it can take time to do right. Please be patient!

While we do work on custom builds, there are certain services we don't do.

One example is custom water loops, which requires tools we don't have. The work needed is also very involved, so it's very expensive specialty work. Unfortunately, we don't plan on offering this as a service for now.

Another example is overclocking, which is beyond the usual use and setup of a computer.

While this is work we are technically able to do, there are usually other factors going into why we cannot offer them as a service.

Laptop screens and standalone monitors are different!

While we can work on the computer itself, we don't have the resources to work on any peripheral devices. Some of them require specialty tools, proprietary hardware, or are more expensive to fix than to buy a replacement.

Keep food away from your computer!

While it's technically not as damaging as liquid, food can also make a mess (literally and figuratively). You may not see it, but we certainly do when we have to open up your laptop.

Please be careful with your computer!
