Code For Good West Michigan is looking for non-profits for its annual Weekend for Good hackathon! If you know of a registered 501c3 in West Michigan that has less than $250K annual budget/resources and is not a religious or political entity, send them the info:

Code For Good West Michigan is a community of technology, design, and marketing professionals who volunteer our time to help small local nonprofits. We empower nonprofits through technology by building websites, dashboards, and databases free of charge.

Our annual event, Weekend for Good, will be November 7-9, 2025 in downtown Grand Rapids at Vervint. Does your organization have any technology needs this year? If you think this may be a good fit, please fill out our Nonprofit Interest Form.

Since Mark Luckie’s brave post nearly one year to this day highlighting the patterns of aggression against black employees, not much has changed. There may be a few more posters on the wall. There may be an effort to recruit diverse talent. But not much has changed to ensure that people are recognized, empowered, and overall treated equitably by their managers and peers. In fact, things have gotten worse, as will be illustrated here through the below incidents that have occurred over the past six months.

Facebook still has a black people problem. And a problem with individual contributors who are not white.

When Mintium, LLC needed to build out website templates for a client, designer Nicole Butela referred One Black Crayon for the work. After completing the templates, the files were handed off to Brightfind for implementation into a CMS. Thank you to everyone that worked on this project for Water Environment Federation (WEF). I learned a lot and could not have been happier to work with such an awesome group of people.
