Complicated passwords aren’t always stronger, especially when they rely on predictable substitutions or get reused across multiple accounts.

A long, unique passphrase is often easier to remember and harder to guess. Just as important, every account should have its own password. If one password ends up in the wrong hands, a unique password can help limit the damage to that single account instead of everything connected to it.

But even strong passwords aren’t perfect. That’s why Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) matters.

Think of passwords as your first line of defense. MFA adds another layer of protection, helping keep an attacker out even if a password is compromised. Together, strong passwords and MFA go a long way toward protecting your accounts and your business.

“Account compromised. Reset your password now.” “Pay now to avoid account closure.”

Phishing attacks often create urgency. The less time you spend thinking, the more likely you are to click, respond, or share information.

Unexpected login prompts, payment requests, secrecy, and unusual messages from leadership are all reasons to pause.

Before acting, go straight to the source. Text or call the colleague supposedly making the request. Log in directly on the vendor’s official website to check your account status.

A few extra seconds can prevent a much larger problem.

Today’s phishing messages can be polished, personalized, and surprisingly convincing.

Instead of trusting an email by how it looks, pause and consider the context.

You may notice an official-looking email from a trusted vendor was sent from a strange email address. They lead with fear and urgency. Maybe they ask for a reasonable but unexpected request.

Before acting, always pause and assess. Go directly to the source to verify, rather than relying on the email. A convincing message isn’t necessarily a trustworthy one.

It’s easy to think of cybersecurity as preventing bad actors from getting access to your systems. But what about the access that already exists?

Former employees, old accounts, unused applications, third-party vendors, excessive permissions, and unmanaged devices can all create hidden risks.

Take a moment to ask: Who and what can access your data right now?

Understanding and managing access is an important part of protecting your business.

As your technology partner, we can help you get a clearer picture of who has access to what, identify unnecessary risk, and keep your security practices up to date.

October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month.

Cybersecurity today isn’t as simple as purchasing a tool once and calling it done. It requires ongoing attention across your users, devices, access, cloud environments, policies, and training.

As your business changes, your risks change with it. Your technology partner should help you see the bigger picture, adjust your approach, and make security part of how your organization works every day.

That’s what turns individual security tools into meaningful, layered protection.

What a night celebrating 40 years of CIO Solutions!

We spent the evening at UCSB enjoying casino games, great food, beautiful lagoon views, and, most importantly, time with some of the people who have been such an important part of our story.

Founder John Petote reflected on the early days of CIO, when the company started in his apartment, and on the significance of reaching this milestone. CEO Eric Egolf spoke about the people, partnerships, and culture that have helped the company navigate four decades of change in technology.

The night was a reminder that our story has always been about people. Forty years doesn't happen by accident. It takes great people, strong relationships, a willingness to adapt, and a lot of trust along the way.

Enjoy a few candid moments from our team's perspective, and stay tuned for more photos from this milestone celebration soon!

Your team has a job to do and chances are, managing IT isn’t it.

They shouldn’t have to stop what they’re doing to troubleshoot a computer, figure out why something isn’t connecting, or worry about whether their devices are secure.

You focus on your business. We’ll focus on your IT.
