When’s the last time you had a good idea away from your desk and it still existed by the time you got back?
I used to judge a tool by how much it did while I wasn’t looking. Wrong test.
Here’s the one I use now. I was out on a trail run. Opened TrueFlow. Jotted a thought on the dashboard — I had an idea for coffee. Went into campaigns and started the interview process on it to see what it would build. Found a glitch on the way through. Kept moving.
The run isn’t the point. The idea surviving the run is.
Most tools only work in the chair. You sit down, you open the 17 tabs, you’re the thing holding it together. Stand up and it all pauses until you come back.
The reason you started this was to f**k off on a Tuesday and still be productive on a Wednesday.
So the question isn’t what your tool does while you’re sitting in front of it. It’s whether anything moves when you’re not.
