As Halloween has closed out and Thanksgiving approaches, so does Black Friday. Unless you have lived in a cave or under a rock since the 1960s, GDbN Advertising assumes you are aware of the biggest shopping day of the year. The day after Thanksgiving, and sometimes before and after, retail sales are at their greatest.
One retail company is taking a different stance against the standard this year and their movement is making big waves. We are talking about the REI Co-Op, who is promoting their movement. They may be closed on the biggest shopping day of the year but their website and the good old outdoors are always open. Since announcing their rebel stance, their social media views and mentions have increased by a whopping 6,557%. Kudos to REI for not only giving their employees a much needed day to spend outdoors, with their families or doing a bit of their own Black Friday shopping but also for finding a clever way to hit the media ground running. We don't think they will see any negative repercussions from this one. Is your retail business open or are you planning to follow suit and head outside? Please share your thoughts in the comments, we love to hear from you.

Since 1938 we've been dedicated to getting people outside. On 11/27 the co-op is closing all 143 stores so our employees can do just that. We hope to see you and all 5.5 million of our members out there too.
