So many scams lately!
Over the past 6 months, it seems as if the scammers are really coming out of the woodwork. The scams must be working otherwise they would not be so prevalent.
Many of the scams are directed towards those who just don't know any better, those who are in financial distress or the elderly.
So, we’re going to list a few of the most prominent and hope that if you know someone who could benefit from the post, then please pass it on.
1. Money from a rich person you don’t know:
This used to be the good old Nigerian scam, however it now has many different variations. The bottom line is nobody is going to send you a fortune out of the blue no matter how much you want to believe it. They suck you in, get you to pay fees then move on to their next victim.
2. Order products or service with a CC and overpaying, then want you to send the over payment to their associate:
This is a complete scam. They CC is stolen and not yet reported. Once you have ran the card and sent the money you are now responsible for that transaction and are on the hook for the full amount. Once the CC is reported stolen, you transaction gets reversed and you have to pay the entire amount back. This is mainly targeted at businesses.
3. A phone call from the Windows or Computer technical support saying your computer is sending out virus messages and needs fixing:
First off, Microsoft will never call you like that out of the blue to tell you your computer is infected. The caller directs you to install a program that then gives them full access to your computer where they then install viruses and tell you that you need to buy their virus removal program. If anybody like that calls you, simply hang up.
4. Fake emails from various companies telling you to login and reset your password:
I'm seeing these a lot more lately and they look really convincing. The latest one is from Apple iTunes and unless you look closely at the destination in the link, you would never know it was a fake. By filling it out, you then give the scammers access and CC information that they then either sale, or use to defraud you.
Those are just a few of the top scams I'm seeing a lot of lately.
Be careful what links you click and about giving any information out to anybody you don't know.
The only way to ever put a dent in these scammers to make more people aware of them so please pass this on to anybody you might think would benefit from it.
