Behind every episode of Building Leadership Community is a dedicated workflow designed to honor our guests and support our listeners.

In this special behind-the-scenes feature, Coach Dora Mendez (host/co-producer) and I (editor/co-producer) explain how we turn single recordings into multi-platform resources—and how you can do the same for your brand or business.

One of the biggest misconceptions about branding is that every challenge requires a rebrand.

In reality, many organizations don't need a new identity. They need a clearer way to communicate the value they've already built.

In Part 4 of the “When Your Brand No Longer Fits” series, on my weekly newsletter “Brand Wayfinder ”, We explore the difference between a brand refresh and a strategic rebrand, and why the right answer almost always begins with understanding the organization before changing the brand.

If you've ever wondered whether your organization has outgrown the way it's presenting itself, I hope you'll find this perspective useful.

Not every organization that outgrows its brand needs to start over. The challenge is knowing what comes next.

Sometimes a business doesn’t need more content, more redesigns, or more marketing activity.

Sometimes it simply needs a brand foundation that has grown alongside the organization itself.

One of the most common challenges growing organizations face is realizing that the business has evolved… but the brand structure supporting it hasn’t fully caught up yet.

That can show up as:
• Messaging that feels harder to explain
• Marketing that requires more effort than it should
• A growing disconnect between the quality of the work and how the organization is perceived

In the final part of my 6-part series, I explore the moment when branding becomes less about patching individual pieces and more about building intentional alignment underneath the business.

If that experience feels familiar, I think this one may resonate with you.

Most businesses don’t have an effort problem.
They have a clarity problem.

Specifically: positioning.

Trying to appeal to everyone feels like a growth strategy…
but in practice, it makes it harder for the right people to recognize your value.

Over time, that shows up as:
• Messaging that feels stretched
• Marketing that lacks focus
• A brand that isn’t pulling its weight

In Part 2 of this series, I break down the decision most businesses avoid—and why clear positioning is what allows everything else to start working.

If your business has evolved, but your brand hasn’t quite caught up, this will likely resonate.

Read Part 2 here:

Trying to appeal to everyone doesn’t create more opportunity—it makes it harder for the right people to recognize your value.
