American cloud computing services provider Rackspace says an ongoing outage affecting its hosted Microsoft Exchange environments and likely thousands of customers was caused by a security incident.

We are continuously monitoring the email outage situation and are posting status updates, as they become available to us. Here is the latest update from RackSpace Technologies.

Our security and operations teams continue to work both internally and closely with outside experts to determine the full scope and impact of the issue involving our Hosted Exchange environment.

Since our last update, we have assisted numerous customers to open replacement Microsoft 365 accounts so they can resume sending and receiving emails. This remains our topmost priority. Our support teams across the company continue working to assist customers in all hands-on deck effort during this time. We are working diligently to source additional resources to help our customers over the weekend. If you need assistance, please contact our support team via our usual support channels.

Attention Hosted Exchange email clients:
Early Friday morning, the 3rd party email host company that we have used for over 15 years, suffered a major issue to there Hosted Exchange server environment. As such, emails to 24 of our clients have been affected, including our own email system. This is a national company, and it has affected thousands of IT companies, such as us, across the country. We have also been down since early Friday morning. We have been working to monitor the information that is provided to us and passing it along to our clients as we receive it. The latest update is that they do not have a time frame as to when there servers will be restored. They are recommending to get customer back up and running as quickly as possible, to move clients to Office365 platform. There is no support from the hosting company at this point, due to the volume for calls they are receiving. We are in the process of setting up our affected clients in our Office 365 portal. We have one account, [email protected], that is still working because it is under a different platform. You can send emails to this address with any question you have. We will do our best to get back to you as quickly as possible, however we are working tirelessly to get these 24 clients access to their email as fast as we can. We want to thank our clients for the patients during this unprecedented outage. Thank you

The hosting company has been down since 1:30 a.m. we are actively monitoring the situation and providing updates when we receive them. It is affecting our email system as well, so if you tried emailing us and we did not respond, that is why. Here is the latest status update from the hosting company.
