Viktor Hovland was left frustrated after a disappointing final round at the Tour Championship allowed Scottie Scheffler to claim his second FedExCup title.

Hovland entered the final round with a one-shot lead over Ryan Gerard and three shots ahead of Scheffler, but a 2-over 72 dropped him to second as Scheffler closed with a 4-under 66 to win by three strokes at 16-under.

The result earned Hovland $5 million for finishing second in the season-long FedExCup standings, but the Norwegian admitted he was disappointed given the position he held entering Sunday. He said he needed only a 1-under round to force a playoff and believed his usual ball-striking could have been enough to win.

Despite the setback, Hovland can look back on a strong late-season turnaround, including his eighth PGA Tour victory at the Travelers Championship, where he defeated Scheffler in a playoff. His reunion with coach Joe Mayo has also provided renewed optimism as he looks to rediscover the form that made him a two-time winner in 2023.

Scottie Scheffler closed out a dominant PGA Tour season with a three-shot victory over Viktor Hovland at the Tour Championship, earning his second FedExCup title.

Scheffler shot a 4-under 66 in the final round at East Lake Golf Club to finish at 16-under 264. Hovland, who started the day with the lead, finished second after a 2-over 72.

The victory gave Scheffler his third PGA Tour win of the season and the 22nd of his career. He also earned $10 million from the Tour Championship purse, taking his career earnings to $130,390,661 and moving him past Tiger Woods for the top spot on the PGA Tour's all-time money list.

Scheffler now joins Woods and Rory McIlroy as the only players with multiple FedExCup titles. He also won the FedEx St. Jude Championship earlier in the playoffs, giving him two playoff victories this season.

The win marked Scheffler's fifth straight season with multiple PGA Tour victories. He finished the season with three wins, five runner-up finishes and 13 top-four finishes in 20 starts.
