Can a component pass IL inspection and still fail in the real system?

A component may pass a basic insertion loss test while still exhibiting issues caused by wavelength-dependent loss (WDL), polarization-dependent loss (PDL), back-reflection, or spectral drift. For passive components such as filters, AWGs, couplers, and isolators, understanding performance requires more than a single measurement value.

Can a component pass IL inspection and still fail in the real system?

In optical component testing, a device can pass a basic insertion loss check and still fail later because of wavelength-dependent loss, polarization sensitivity, back-reflection, or spectral shape drift.
For filters, AWGs, couplers, isolators, and other passive components, the measurement workflow needs to show more than one number. It needs to reveal how the component behaves across wavelength, polarization state, and operating condition.
