Ownership is more than a benefit. It’s a mindset.

At SOLID, being employee-owned strengthens our shared commitment to:

• Taking responsibility for the quality of our work
• Collaborating across roles, teams, and projects
• Making thoughtful decisions with the future in mind
• Contributing to the success of our clients and our company

Every employee plays a role in what SOLID accomplishes—and shares in the value we build together.

People don't experience learning and work in neat, disconnected systems. Their information shouldn't have to either.

Someone may build skills through education, military service, workplace training, credentials, apprenticeships, and years of experience. But too often, the information describing those skills stays locked within the system where it originated.

That's why interoperability matters.

Open standards, connected data models, and APIs can help skills and credential information move securely and consistently between platforms, giving individuals greater ability to carry what they've learned with them.

The technology matters. But the larger goal is simple: people shouldn't have to start over every time they cross from one system to another.

October is Employee Ownership Month—a chance to celebrate what it means to be part of an employee-owned company.

At SOLID, employee ownership means the people doing the work also have a stake in the company’s success. It encourages us to think beyond individual assignments and consider the long-term strength of our organization, the quality of our work, and the value we create for our clients and partners.

Throughout the month, we’ll share more about how employee ownership shapes the way we work.

AI can identify skills faster and at a scale that wasn't possible before. But identifying more skills isn't necessarily the goal.

The real question is whether we've identified the right skills.

Useful skills intelligence needs to be grounded in evidence. Where did the skill come from? What does the underlying learning or experience actually support? How specific should the skill be? And would an individual, educator, or employer recognize it as an accurate representation of what someone knows and can do?

That's why we believe AI works best alongside human expertise. Technology can accelerate the analysis, while experienced analysts and subject-matter experts provide the context and validation needed to make the results meaningful.

Because when skills information is being used to inform education, credentials, hiring, or career decisions, accuracy matters more than volume.

Military skills aren't hidden. They're documented differently.

Military records contain a wealth of information about training, experience, responsibilities, and accomplishments. But those records were built to serve military purposes, not to communicate what someone knows and can do to a civilian employer, educator, or workforce system.

That's where translation matters.

Making military-acquired skills visible isn't simply about extracting more information from a record. It's about understanding the underlying evidence, interpreting it in context, and translating it into skill signals that are accurate, meaningful, and trusted.

When we get that translation right, we aren't creating new skills. We're making the skills service members and veterans already have easier for other systems to recognize and use.

At SOLID, we've spent more than two decades working at that intersection of military experience, credentialing, education, and workforce opportunity. Today, we're building on that expertise with new tools and approaches that can make military skills more visible and portable at scale.

Because the skills are already there. The opportunity is making sure others can see them.

Today, we pause to remember those whose lives were lost on September 11, 2001, and all those whose lives were forever changed.

We honor their memory and the courage, service, and compassion shown in the face of unimaginable loss.

We remember.

What does it take to make skills information truly trustworthy?

During Trusted Records, Better Hires: Skills-Based Lessons from Veteran Talent, SOLID’s Lauren Runco Bevilacqua shared an important lesson from our work translating military learning and experience: AI alone isn’t enough.

Technology can help accelerate analysis, but trusted skills intelligence also depends on rigorous methodologies, meaningful evidence, and input from subject-matter experts. SOLID’s approach brings these elements together—grounding analysis in source evidence and the context needed to interpret it accurately.

That context is especially important when translating military learning and experience, where a title or record alone rarely tells the full story. By looking more deeply at what individuals learned and did, we can represent their skills in ways that are reliable, recognizable, and useful to both individuals and employers.

Thank you to Jobs for the Future, Hire Heroes USA, The Manufacturing Institute, and the other participating partners for bringing together perspectives on how trusted records can strengthen skills-based hiring and help employers better recognize veteran talent.

How can we make veterans’ skills, training, and experience more visible—and more useful to employers?

On September 3, SOLID’s Lauren Runco Bevilacqua will join JFF, Hire Heroes USA, The Manufacturing Institute, and Sytease Geib for Trusted Records, Better Hires: Skills-Based Lessons from Veteran Talent.

This practical conversation will explore how trusted records can support skills-based hiring and what employers and workforce partners can do to better recognize and use the skills veterans bring to the workforce.

The conversation about making military skills visible doesn't end when the webinar does.

Following The Manufacturing Institute's Beyond the Résumé: Making Military Skills Visible to Unlock Manufacturing Talent webinar, we're excited to share the recording and key takeaways for anyone who wasn't able to join live.

SOLID's Lauren Runco Bevilacqua joined Sytease Geib to explore how manufacturers can better recognize the skills military-connected talent already brings to the workforce and turn those skills into meaningful opportunities for career growth and mobility.

A big thank you to Sabrina Zarifi, The Manufacturing Institute, and National Association of Manufacturers for hosting the conversation and sharing these great resources, and to Sytease for sharing her expertise and perspective. These kinds of discussions help move us closer to workforce systems where military experience is not only valued, but understood, trusted, and actionable.
