The Import History View is Your Friend
One of the least utilized features in LAMU is the Import History view. Even though most of the time you wouldn't need to bother with import history, there are times you will find the Import History view a great help.
LAMU keeps a record of every imported item it has processed. When you open the Import History View, there is a dropdown of all the Import Sessions that you have created. When you select a session, you will see the list of every single item that is included in that import session.
The list shows the original location of the file and three status flags: File Copied, Thumbnail Generated, and Skipped.
The File copied flag shows whether LAMU copied the file to the drive. The Thumbnail generated flag shows whether the thumbnail has been generated. The Skipped flag indicates the photo is a duplicate and has been skipped.
You can double-click any item to view it.

How to Permanently Delete Files in LAMU
If there are files in LAMU that you are certain that you will never need in the future, you can permanently delete these files.
After you have deleted these files, go to the Trash Can view (From the Left Menu, click Manage Device, then click the Trash Can button at the top right.). Select the files you want to delete permanently, right mouse click, and then choose Delete Permanently. The files will be permanently deleted from LAMU.
Once a file has been permanently deleted from LAMU, you will no longer be able to see the file or restore it. All metadata about the file will also be deleted except the signature of the file. LAMU keeps the signature record so that it can recognize the file and not import the same file again in the future.

How Does Trashcan Work in LAMU?
When you delete media files from LAMU, the media files are marked as deleted and are put into the Trash Can. You will not see them in the timeline or other photo list views anymore.
If you deleted an item by mistake, you can always restore them from the Trash Can.
From the Left Menu, click Manage Device, then click the Trash Can button at the top right. You will see the list of all deleted photos. Simply select the files you want to restore, right mouse click, and then choose Restore. The files will be restored to all list views.

Fine-Grained Control of What to Import into LAMU
LAMU can import photos from many different sources. Internal drives, external drives, SD Cards, and even the Cloud.
When importing from local sources, you have control over which part of the source LAMU should search for photos from.
Many LAMU users like to let LAMU search the entire computer to import. This way you can be assured that LAMU will find and import every photo stored on the computer. Frequently you will be pleasantly surprised that LAMU has found some photos that you didn't know existed or had thought were long gone.
But you do have the option to select specific folders to limit the search if you want. You can also specify media types to include or exclude. This way, you make sure only the media you want to get imported into LAMU.

Multiple Categories for Albums, Events
Did you know, you can assign multiple categories to Albums and Events?
When you create an album or event, sometimes it can be difficult to decide which category to file it under. Frequently you will find that an album or event can be filed under multiple categories. While previously you will have to choose a single category to file the album or event under, now you can file them under multiple categories so you can find the same album or event under each category you assigned them to.

Albums or Events, Which Should I Choose?

You can organize photos using albums or events in LAMU. While both allow you to curate a collection of photos on a particular subject, there are some differences between the two.
With albums, you can sort your photos in any order you need. By default, photos in albums are sorted by date, time, and place. If you want to sort in a different way, you can choose Custom Sort and order the photos by dragging and dropping them to their desired positions.
Events does not provide custom sorting, however, you can create a folder tree structure to organize the photos for an event. The folder tree works just like File Explorer so you can create a folder hierarchy in any way you like.
So, if you need custom sort, e.g., for a slideshow, create an album. If you want to use folder structure, go with an event.

See Photos for All Years in Remote Timeline View 📷
With LAMU, you can access all your photos remotely from any device that has a web browser when you turn on Remote Access. From the web browser, you can view photos by Timeline, People, Albums, Events, Tags, Places, Special Days, and Favorites.

One drawback with remote access was that the Timeline is arranged by Year and you could only view one year at a time. This can be cumbersome if you don't remember the year of a photo you are looking for. We have recently released an update to the Remote Access functions in LAMU. With the update, you can now view photos of all years in one view just as you do when you are using LAMU on the desktop.

Organize Photos by Special Days❤️
The Special Days view lets you easily find all photos for important days such as birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays. All federal holidays are built-in. When you open a special day, LAMU will display all the photos over the years for that day. You can also create your own special day.
When you create a special day, you can specify the date for the Special Day and the year when you want to start. LAMU will automatically find all photos and videos on that day filtered by the year range you specify.

How to Export All Photos of a Person from LAMU?📷
You can export all the photos of a person from the People view. When you import photos into LAMU, LAMU will find faces and group the faces by people. You can then name the people so you can find the photos for a person easily. You can also draw faces manually if LAMU did not detect the faces automatically.
Once you have all the photos of a person, select the person from the People view, then right-mouse click and choose Export. This will export all photos of this person to a location you choose. If you want to select specific photos to export, pen the list of photos for the person, select the photos using checkboxes and then right-mouse click and choose Export.
You can turn on checkboxes in People's view and export multiple people at the same time. Photos for each person will be put in their own folder.

How to Export Photos from LAMU?
There are many ways you can export photos once they are imported into LAMU. You can select an individual photo or multiple photos from any list of photos and then right-mouse click and choose export.
You can export an entire album, event, special day, or person.
You can also export the entire library if you like.
You can choose to export to any storage location, internal drive, external hard drive or flash drive. Once you have the photos in a folder, you can then use them for any software you use.

Need More than 2TB to Store Your Photos and Videos?
Standard LAMU devices are external USB drives with storage sizes ranging from 128 GB to 2 TB. What if you need more than 2TB storage? This can happen if you take a lot of videos. In that case, you can get a USB drive with larger storage and set up LAMU on the drive. There is no limit on the size of the drive.

Filter for Adding Photos to Albums, Tags, and Events
If you have a larger number of albums, tags, or events, you may have found it cumbersome to locate the specific item you want when you try to add new photos to an album, tag, or event. An avid LAMU user recently pointed this out in her feedback and we have added a filter to help you navigate the long lists. You can now filter the list of albums, tags, and events by typing a couple of letters.
