There's a moment in every commercial project where the technology conversation shifts from "we should plan for this" to "we need to fix this."

It usually happens around 90% construction documents. Sometimes at submittal. Occasionally during commissioning.

By then, the options are expensive.

The TR that's two sizes too small. The conduit pathway that runs through a structural beam. The wireless coverage plan that doesn't account for the Owner's DAS requirements. The access control system that the IT department has never seen and won't approve.

None of these are surprises in retrospect. Every one of them had a moment (early in design) where a single conversation would have changed the outcome. We have that conversation at SD. Every time. If you have a project starting schematic design in the next 60 days, it's worth a call.

The technology was never the problem.

We've been doing this for nearly 40 years. The infrastructure changes. The vendors change. The platforms change. What doesn't change is this: the organizations that get the most out of technology are the ones that treat it as a strategic decision, not a procurement event.

That gap, between buying technology and actually operationalizing it, is where most transformations stall.

Vendor-neutral means we have no stake in which vendor you choose. Our only stake is that it works for you, that it fits your environment, and that five years from now it still makes sense.

That independence is rare. It's also the only way to give advice worth taking.

Every decision made in schematic design without accounting for technology creates constraints that become progressively more expensive to fix.

Not because the technology changes. Because the building doesn't.

By the time you're at 60% CD, the TR is sized, the pathways are routed, and the MEP coordination is done. Moving anything at that point isn't a design revision — it's a change order.

The conversations that prevent this aren't complicated. They happen at SD, before the drawings lock in what's possible. They take 20 minutes and save projects six figures.

We've been having those conversations with architects and engineers for 40 years.

If your next project involves any technology scope — IT, AV, security, DAS, smart building systems — the best time to bring us in is now.

Every decision made in schematic design without accounting for technology creates constraints that become progressively more expensive to resolve.

Engaging a technology consultant early can help you produce specs that don’t require a change order during construction or a costly retrofit after occupancy. Read our new blog to learn why tech planning should start at SD: https://na2.hubs.ly/H05kn110

Budget overruns, change orders, and RFIs on tech-heavy projects don't appear out of nowhere. Usually, they happen because technology planning was deferred until it was too late.

Luckily, the majority of these problems are preventable. Check out our new guide to explore the most common causes of these obstacles during architectural projects and what you can do to prevent them: https://na2.hubs.ly/H05dGKN0

This week at Secure360 2026 – Join us for a practical session on how AI Data Governance, data readiness, and enterprise-grade data cleansing determine whether your AI initiatives succeed or fail.

Learn how to eliminate “data drag,” assess your current data landscape, and implement the metadata, lineage, access, and privacy controls required to operationalize AI safely and at scale.

If your AI strategy is moving faster than your data foundation, this session is a must-attend.

Slow apps, frustrated remote users, and rising bandwidth costs are symptoms of a WAN that’s working against your business, not for it.

WAN optimization improves your network’s performance by reducing data transmission, accelerating protocols, and prioritizing traffic that matters most. Read our latest guide to learn how it works and what it can do for your business: https://na2.hubs.ly/H04SSgc0
