The CDPHE Air Pollution Control Division has launched a new grant program to help landfill operators with the costs associated with Colorado Air Quality Control Commission Regulation 31. The Landfill Methane Mitigation Grant Program is a reimbursement-based fund providing about $14 million through 2029 to help landfill operators reduce methane emissions faster than required under Reg. 31. Eligible expenses for this program include, but are not limited to installing a Gas Collection and Control System (GCCS), enhancing or optimizing gas collection of an existing GCCS, replacing an open flare with an enclosed flare, completing any necessary design plans, and developing permits for enclosed flares or GCCS. The division will prioritize funding for smaller local government or nonprofit-owned landfills. Private companies that own or operate municipal solid waste landfills may also apply. To help landfill operators understand the application process, the division prepared a fact sheet with additional information. Access the application and submission guidance through the division’s web page. The division will accept applications until Dec. 1, 2026, and plans to announce funding selections in January 2027.
Each month, the Awesome Foundation awards grants of $1,000 to individuals and groups looking to fund various projects. The Awesome Foundation is made up of dozens of independently run chapters, with members contributing to a microfunding pool that goes towards grant projects. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
