I keep seeing many posts that consist of
"What breed are these ducklings?"

That's a LOADED question...

Many people are "visual" .
They call what they see.
You will probably get a lot of wrong answers.

To accurately answer the question, more information is needed. It depends on if they were from a commercial hatchery, backyard flock or a breeder.

If they are from a mixed flock, they are mixed, even if they LOOK like a purebred whatever breed.

This is the reason why it's a bad idea to purchase breeding stock without seeing the parent flock or know the breeders reputation, especially if you decide later that you want to breed and sell.

Even though you purchased a flock of "black swedish" from the swap , you'll find out quick when you start hatching if they are pure or not, if you have the knowledge to know the difference.

Some people just breed and sell and call the birds what they "look" like, which is wrong.

If someone posts that their pair of ducks hatched an Ancona, a Cayuga, a Pekin and a blue swedish, ask questions because more than likely they are mixed and were assigned a breed name because of their color .

Here’s a fun fact in case Alpha-gal is successful with as bad a ticks are this year. You can still eat red meat, like duck, goose, and emu. As I’ve stated many times, in a SHTF scenario, ducks are pretty much the only thing that’s going to keep you alive. They’ll still produce eggs and meat. How long will cattle last when the grass all dies? When will the chickens lay eggs if there isn’t enough sunlight? Once the grain runs out, aren’t sheep and goats next? Can you sustain yourself on fish alone? What are you going to eat when you’re allergic to ALL meat produced by ALL mammals? That’s right, not just red meat. Beef, Pork, goat, sheep, deer, elk, caribou, moose, squirrel, rabbit, bear(gross), it’s all off the menu if you are unfortunate enough to get bit by a little lone star tick. Comment what you’re gonna eat if you get Alpha-gal syndrome!

Bittersweet update. We’re now up to 39 Silver Appleyards, but so far only 10 of them are female šŸ˜… that’s just how it goes sometimes… good thing they produce large quantities of some of the best meat I’ve ever had in my life!

Reminder: We still have Toulouse goslings, Embden goslings, a white female holland lop(pedigreed), 2 female Nigerian Dwarf kids, and tons of Muscovys available. We’re also rehoming adult Muscovys and Geese for a friend.

Something we knew was coming, but we dreaded having to deal with it, but the time has finally come. We are parting ways with our Pekins, Production Rouens, and Khaki Campbells. They will go in discounted breeding pairs or single Duck hens. **Pm if interested**

The reason is mostly because we cannot move their eggs. They all produce eggs like crazy. Details below. But with the cost of feed, the few eggs we sell makes us break even. We can’t justify the amount of works, time, and attention needed to keep them safe and happy, while only breaking even.

We loved giving people access to healthy clean organic food, but we just can’t keep it up. I understand this is going to be a huge inconvenience for many people, and I apologize. Much like when we stopped hatching and supply all the auctions and sales with ducklings(700+ a month), and now there’s a huge shortage locally and in surrounding areas.

Personally, I think our breaking point was when we saw how many people were in line at the IGAs reopening. They all just waited instead of going to local farmers, just to save a bit of money, and to get free stuff. At that moment I had the thought ā€œthis town is doomed, and so are we, if this is what we have to work withā€. We’ll never get fair exchange here, so instead of wasting our time, we’re going a different direction.

Once these flocks are gone, we’ll offer hatching eggs online and in person. These eggs will be from Austrian spotted ducks, Cayugas, Welsh harlequins, Silver Appleyards, Anconas, and occasionally, Runners. Plus the 3 goose breeds and blonde emu eggs(eventually). We will still have edible eggs available, but it won’t be 100 eggs a day anymore.

I hope everyone can understand our position, thank you to everyone following, liking, and sharing, it is very much appreciated!
