You want a support structure that works for you, not them. No convoluted "tiered" support where you explain your issue to the help desk, they escalate to a novice tech, who then escalates it to someone else, and so on. It's a waste of your time. Instead, you want a dedicated support team assigned to your account. One team that takes the time to deeply understand YOUR specific business, systems and needs. No having to re-explain everything each time.
โท Ask directly about average response time for issues and emergencies. "We're really responsive" is not an answer. If they want a long term contract โ get that response time in writing. (thank us later.)
โธ Question them about your core systems, apps, servers - everything that keeps your operations humming. You want to hear confidence that they can support it, not uncertainty.
โน Don't just read reviews, match them to YOUR priorities. There's usually one key reason you need new IT. Make sure this team can ultimately resolve it. Otherwise, you won't be happy.
โบ Ask about billing, especially how they bill projects outside the scope of your service. Confirm they'll give advanced notice of any extra charges before beginning the project. (Yeah, it's a thing.)
โป If you can't avoid a long term contract, be wary of short window auto-renew and termination clauses. These tricks are still around and are not in your favor.
โผ Local, local, local = On-site support, context understanding, and personalization.
โฝ Ask to meet the team: Gauge transparency, rapport and whether you'd trust this team with your business, because you're about to.
And don't worry, the vetting process won't intimidate the right IT partner. They'll welcome your discerning eye. You're doing it right by trusting but verifying every step of the way. Don't stop until you find an IT partner as dedicated to your success as you are. ๐ฏ
