The United States Postal Service (USPS) is making a major technological shift, planning to integrate Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) labels into nearly all of its packages by 2027.
While USPS has utilized RFID since 1998 for tracking items like mail containers, sorting trays, and vehicles, a recent drop in RFID label costs has spurred a massive expansion. This expansion follows earlier successful use in tracking critical healthcare packages.
This broader RFID rollout is projected to eliminate up to 20 million manual scans every day. RFID is a versatile technology, offering benefits beyond tracking, including inventory management, shrinkage reduction, and monitoring valuable hardware on-site. For a reliable partner to handle your RFID implementation, look no further than Accucode.
The carrier will equip U.S. hubs with RFID sensors and customers with label printers as it looks to connect nearly all of its packages with the technology, an executive said.
