📱🌄 INTERNET SAFETY MONTH: Let’s Talk About It
Living in Appalachia means many of us know our neighbors, wave from the porch, and look out for one another.
But online?
Not everyone is who they claim to be.
Whether you’re checking Facebook Marketplace, scrolling community groups, helping your kids play online games, or paying bills from your kitchen table, internet safety matters more than ever.
A few simple reminders:
✅ Don’t click links from unknown texts or emails.
✅ Never give banking information to someone who calls you unexpectedly.
Even if they claim to be from a provider you are subscribed to!
✅ Verify Facebook Marketplace buyers and sellers before sending money.
✅ Talk with your kids about who they’re chatting with online.
✅ Use strong passwords and two-factor authentication whenever possible.
We see it all the time—good people in rural communities being targeted by scams simply because someone caught them on a busy day.
