📹 LIGHTFINDER. OPTIMIZEDIR. FORENSIC WDR.
You may have seen these terms when looking at Axis cameras - but what do they actually mean?
Here’s the simple breakdown:
AXIS LIGHTFINDER -
Low light, still in color.
Lightfinder helps cameras capture clear, full-color video in extremely low-light conditions, preserving details that may otherwise be difficult to see.
AXIS OPTIMIZEDIR -
When there’s little to no light at all.
OptimizedIR uses built-in infrared illumination to provide clear, evenly exposed video in complete darkness - without requiring additional visible lighting.
AXIS FORENSIC WDR -
Bright and dark areas in the same scene.
Forensic WDR helps balance scenes with major lighting differences - like a dark interior facing a bright doorway or window - so important details remain visible in both areas.
Think of it this way:
Lightfinder → LOW LIGHT
OptimizedIR → NO LIGHT
Forensic WDR → MIXED LIGHT
Different lighting challenges. Different technologies. One goal: clearer, more usable video when it matters.
And on many Axis cameras, these technologies can work together to maintain image usability across changing conditions.
As an Axis Communications partner, Marathon Technology Solutions works with organizations to design and implement video surveillance solutions around their environment, security needs, and real-world conditions. Because choosing the right camera isn’t just about resolution - it’s about making sure you can see the details that matter, when they matter.
