WillC Media & Tech

WillC Media & Tech I decided to consolidate my content creation and tech background into one place. So for now I’m sharing my random adventures.

I will venture into the technical details as well.

Given the Aliens thing is a hot topic I figured I'd look up ways to listen to radio telescopes. This was one of the first results from a google search. It's a radio telescope in the Netherlands. Also, I read about something called a "moon bounce." on a wikipedia page about the observatory. Their official site even mentions a Venus bounce that I will link in following comment.

It could be and I recommend Fedora. Pewdiepie seems to like arch. I used to recommend Ubuntu. That’s going in a more experimental direction just not to the bleeding edge that Arch is.

Fool around and find out. Look what one accidental (F1) key press netted me? I remember the days when you pressed F1 and it brought up the locally installed user manual. What the heck happened to that?

Here's something interesting and possibly useful. This is a webpage that emulates the Microsoft Unix system known as Xenix. It was the first OS Willie Clifton ever used though it may have not been the 1.0 version.

PCjs offers a variety of online machine emulators written in JavaScript. Run DOS, Windows, OS/2 and other vintage PC applications in a web browser on your desktop computer, iPhone, or iPad. At the beginning of 2022 I decided to get hold of a SEGA Astro City cabinet which had to be partially restored. As a result, I’ve gotten to know different places where I can buy and purchase almost all the elements required to build it.

I go to jail for nine months and SSD prices went up by three and a half times? To be transparent with you it has been a year since I bought my last M.2 drive.

I knew that manufactures should have been putting SAS connections into motherboards. I wrote about that on the blog. SAS 6 is like the same thing as SATA in terms of speed. That connection uses lower power on the data connection. SAS is like at 24gb/s. My server was going to be at SAS 12. That's double the speed of SATA. Spinning rust doesn't look to bad from the home lab and enterprise perspective especially when you consider the cables and interface cards.

It seems SSD's were ahead of their time in pricing. Plus, think of the environmental implications. That ewaste has a cost. However, it might be worth the tech putting in the time to refurbish those devices.

There is a time for me to discuss Host Bus Adapters, the cables, Storage Area Networks, True NAS and other storage services, ZFS, Striped and mirrored volumes, RAID, Small Form Factor variations, etc. I might even build a newer server as part of that journey.

Hacking 101:
Treat every information system like it is disposable. If it is compromised, destroy it and throw it out I would prefer you shred all of it. Recycle The chassis and the non-programmable parts. If it’s a Bios chip smash it. If it’s a CPU smash. If it’s a membership smash. If it’s a sub processor smash it. If it’s a memory chip smash it. If it’s a controller smash it or throw it. Have a wonderful day.

If real ID becomes a thing on the internet I’m done with the Internet and I’ll build my own. Build up your library and archive of analog media today. Preserve that information. Learn how to operate a ham radio. Then we can send it all through Morse code.

I don't like third party DNS servers so I've set up a Pihole and Unbound recursive DNS server. It looks up the authoritative sites instead of going through the typical third party of your current dns.
If you've got the spare hardware or a server like I do you can use this guide to set one up. https://youtu.be/FnFtWsZ8IP0
