I was in this drop ceiling the other day, got a little turned around when I saw this exit sign just chilling up there. It literally has one job to do and its not even doing that.

We found a bit of a mess left behind by previous installers on this drop ceiling. At Little Fox Media, we have a strict "no trace" policy. If we’re in your ceiling, we’re leaving it organized, labeled, and—most importantly—clean.

Attention to detail isn't just about the shots we get; it's about the respect we show your space. 👊

If you’ve ever been walking through a building and thought you heard a random bell or ghostly ringing... you aren't going crazy! 🕵️‍♂️

I found these tucked away above the drop ceiling. Sometimes the tech changes, but the hardware stays behind to haunt the hallways.

**What Happens to Your Cameras When the Internet Goes Out?**

Here's a question we hear a lot: "If our internet goes down, do we lose our security cameras?"

The answer depends on how your system is set up.

**Cloud-based systems** store all footage in the cloud. No internet = no recording, no access to live feeds, nothing. You're blind during the outage. These systems are convenient but risky if your internet isn't rock solid.

**Local recording systems** like UniFi Protect store footage directly on a device in your building—an NVR (network video recorder). Even if your internet goes down, cameras keep recording locally. You don't get remote access from your phone, but your footage is safe and secure on-site.

**The smart move:** Local recording gives you peace of mind. Your cameras work during outages, and you have a backup if something happens. Add a UPS (battery backup) to keep everything running through power issues too.

For most small businesses and churches, local recording is the way to go. It's reliable, it's yours, and it works when you need it most.

Want to know if your current setup has local recording? Reach out—we can help you review what you've got.

**Router vs. Mesh: What's the Difference?**

Thinking about upgrading your Wi-Fi? Here's the real difference between a standard router and a mesh system.

A traditional router broadcasts Wi-Fi from one central location. It works fine for smaller spaces, but the signal weakens as you move away—especially through walls and across larger buildings.

A mesh system uses multiple access points working together as one network. Each point communicates with the others, creating seamless coverage throughout your space. You get consistent speed and reliability everywhere, whether you're in the main office, back room, or upstairs.

**The bottom line:** If you're dealing with dead zones, constant disconnects, or a building larger than 2,000 sq ft, mesh is worth the investment. It's what we recommend for most small businesses and churches.

What to avoid Wednesday: The "Daisy Chain" Disaster

Plugging power strips into other power strips might seem convenient, but it's a recipe for disaster—both for your equipment and your safety.

Here's why:
• Fire hazard: Multiple power strips daisy-chained can exceed safe amperage limits, causing overheating and potentially starting a fire.
• Equipment damage: Power surges travel through the chain, frying expensive tech like servers, switches, and cameras.
• Unpredictable failures: You won't know what's going to fail first—and it usually happens at the worst time.

The fix: Use a single power strip with a built-in surge protector, or better yet, plug critical equipment into a UPS (battery backup) directly into the wall outlet.

Your tech will thank you. 🔌

**Do I Really Need a Network Rack?**

You might think a network rack is overkill for a small business. But here's why it matters more than you'd expect.

A proper network rack keeps all your gear—switches, routers, patch panels—organized in one place. More importantly, it enables clean cable management. When cables are bundled neatly and routed properly, heat can dissipate instead of building up inside your equipment.

**Why that matters:** Overheated gear fails faster. Proper airflow keeps your equipment running longer and more reliably. Plus, when something breaks, you can actually see what's connected where. No more hunting through a tangled mess of cables to find the problem.

**The real benefit:** Clean cable management saves you money in the long run. Your equipment lasts longer, repairs are faster, and you avoid the nightmare of troubleshooting a rat's nest of wires.

You don't need a fancy enterprise-grade rack. Even a simple wall-mounted or small floor rack makes a huge difference in keeping your tech running smoothly.

What to avoid Wednesday

Avoid leaving network gear on the floor with a cable spaghetti situation.

We’ve walked into churches and small businesses where the “network closet” is basically:
• a switch on the carpet
• a power strip dangling
• unlabeled cables everywhere

It works—until someone bumps it, unplugs it, or it overheats/dies early.

What to do instead: mount it, protect it (UPS), label it, and keep cables tidy so troubleshooting doesn’t turn into a scavenger hunt.

If you want a clean-up quote, message us.

Tech Tuesday ✅

“Should cameras be wired… or can we just use WiFi?”

For churches + small businesses: WiFi cameras *can* work, but wired is almost always the better long-term move.

Wired (PoE) wins because:
• more reliable (no random drops)
• cleaner video (less compression/lag)
• one cable = power + data
• easier to troubleshoot

WiFi cameras make sense when running cable is truly impossible — but you’ll want strong WiFi coverage and a plan for power.

If you tell us what you’re trying to cover (doors, parking lot, kids wing hallway), we’ll tell you the simplest way to do it right.
