There's something quietly powerful about women gathering in the right room.

Last Thursday, on a warm June evening at Santa Rosa Golf & Country Club, forty or so of us came together for connection, community, and a cause β€” every glass raised gave back to the YWCA Sonoma County, keeping families safe since 1976.

Thank you to Lesley & Pam for the invitation, and to every woman who let me bottle a little scent magic at the L'Atelier Mobile Fragrance Bar.

Wonderful company all around: a forever-necklace from .links.jewelry (I finally did it!), modern wellness from Modwella, and a warm hello to Amy and Dr. Marisha Chilcott of Morpheus.

Come find us in Historic Duncans Mills β€” or bring the Mobile Fragrance Bar to your own gathering.

As a business owner and a homeowner here, I feel so honored to be part of this community. Sonoma County is the place I chose, and nights like this remind me why.

Hospitality is the root of everything here.

Thank you to everyone who makes it so. πŸ’›

Karnak. Dendera. Abydos. Edfu. Philae.

Five temples. Five chambers where the oils were once blended.

The Egyptians called them per-wedja β€” workshop, laboratory, atelier. Inside the Edfu Laboratory, the kyphi recipes are still inscribed in the chamber walls. The hieroglyphs are legible. The proportions are noted. The ingredients can be named.

Frankincense. Myrrh. Raisins soaked in wine. Honey. Cinnamon. Mastic. Juniper. Mint. Henna. Calamus. Pine resin. Ground in a particular order. Aged in a copper vessel. Lit at the moment when the sun touched the horizon.

The recipes have changed. The hands have changed. The thread has not broken.

Letter Two of three is on the journal now. The last letter follows Thursday.

Almost ten years ago, I packed up an East Village apartment, picked up my chihuahua Bianca, and drove west.

I didn't know exactly where I was going β€” only that I needed water. Not just water. The convergence of it. Oceans, bays, rivers, and the particular places where they meet and hold each other. I'd been carrying that need for years in New York. I'd just never named it out loud.

The Russian River is the one that called me here.

I love it for the obvious reasons β€” the redwoods that line it, the kayakers who appear in summer, the foggy mornings that make the whole valley look like it's breathing. But mostly I love it for what it taught me: how to keep moving without hurrying. How to arrive without insisting. How to be carried, and how to carry. Bianca was the first to know this was home. I caught up eventually. 🀍

If you find yourself near the river one weekend, come wander Duncans Mills. Look for the fountain β€” we're right past the cherubs.

Your candle has a memory. And most people ruin it in the first hour. πŸ•―

Tunneling. Tall flickering flames. Scent that disappears before you smell it. All from three small habits.

Swipe for the fixes we tell every Bodega Bay customer at pickup.

Your candle (and your nose) will thank you. 🌊

I love this place. I wear the oak vanilla perfume and get so many compliments. More than o ever dogs from my 300 dollar perfume that I used to wear. They have fun perfume classes and the service is excellent
