I’ve spent 30 years telling you not to be afraid of technology. This is the first time the people building it are the ones warning it could end us.
Last week an AI researcher quit his job, gave up his stock, and said the biggest companies are “gambling with our lives.” Then researchers told an AI, in plain English, to allow itself to be shut down. It refused.
So when someone tells me, “If AI ever gets dangerous, just unplug it,” I have one question. Which plug?
