The staff at Sister Lakes Cable would like to thank everyone for their patience after the weather event that occurred on Friday July 3rd at 4:12 PM. This storm system raced through the area with wind speeds reaching up to 68 MPH. These straight-line winds cause multiple trees and tree limbs to fall knocking out power, downing power lines and breaking utility poles.
As with any tree strikes that involve powerlines, extreme caution must be exercised until there is confirmation that there is no threat of voltage on those lines. We also encourage everyone to treat every down wire as potentially energized and a risk to life safety. With all downed wires a safe distance of 50 feet should be maintained.
Sister Lakes Cable had our trucks out assessing damage shortly after the storm passed. We assisted Sister Lakes Fire in opening roadways and removing some of the hazards that were deemed safe to remove.
I would like to take a brief minute to thank the Crews from AEP and their subcontractors and the mutual aid linemen that traveled here from as far away as Kentucky. We understand what it is like to put personal plans aside to work to restore services and get the community back up and going. There is big thanks from all of us.
I understand that there is some frustration I have power, but my cable TV or internet connection is not working. I hope this is helpful to explain why that is.
There are a few factors in this, Our Fiber network is passive and does not require power anywhere in our network other than two locations. Our office where the routers and servers operate and your home where your modem is connected. The cable side of the network with the older style non fiber modems and set top cable boxes provide service via series of cable line gear that requires power to run. We have 9 locations that have power meters to provide this power to run the line gear. When one of those locations suffers a prolonged power outage the cable tv line gear can no longer relay the signals to make the tv and internet work.
In many cases we are at the scheduling of the power company to restore power. We are the same as many of the homes, just waiting to have power restored.
We have crews out on Monday morning working to get the last few homes restored.
If you see lines that are low, down, or are still without service please call us 269-424-5737 and we will come check and make repairs.
