We asked what they’d do first.

Homework. Studying. Grow my creativity. The answers came back fast, because these are kids who already know what’s in front of them.

100 laptops went home in Seattle, most of them to high school students heading toward college applications, each one landing with someone who’d been waiting on it.

If you know a student still working without one, share this. That’s how the next room fills up.

200 Sacramento families now have the tools they need to put their plans in motion.

Kids heading into a new school year. Parents chasing a degree or a job. People building something of their own with no equipment to build it on.

Ronald is one of them. He’s starting a nonprofit for fathers going through family court, a kind of support he says is hard to find. He’d been trying to get it off the ground without a computer at home.

“Without a device these days, you’re pretty much left behind.”

That’s 200 households no longer in that position. What they do next is the part worth watching.

If you know a family still waiting on this, share it. That’s how the next room fills up.

He doesn’t know it’s coming yet.

Ronald has been listening to his son ask for a laptop for about a year. His son is heading into junior high and already makes videos on YouTube using nothing but a phone.

“It’s going to be like winning the lottery for him.”

200 laptops went home in Sacramento. That one is going to a boy who has no idea it exists.

What’s the most important thing on a school supply list this year?

It’s the one that doesn’t fit in a backpack pocket. The one that costs more than everything else on the list combined.

It’s a laptop.

100 of them went out in Inglewood.

Essays, applications, research, anything with a deadline and a submit button. That’s what those 100 machines are for.

A zip code shouldn’t decide what a kid gets to become.

100 laptops went home with families in Aurora, Colorado this summer, and the reason goes back to why Human-I-T exists at all.

Human-I-T started with a specific picture in mind: a country where every family has access to the same opportunities, no matter which zip code they live in. Everyone at the same starting line.

Making sure people have the digital tools to get there is our part of it. What they build from there is theirs.

Staying connected to your own community shouldn’t depend on what device you own.

But it does. Since 2020, a lot of civic life moved online. Neighborhood organizations, school meetings, local opportunities you only hear about if you’re in the room, and the room is often a screen now.

200 laptops went home in Richmond, California, to community members of every age. One recipient put it simply: what mattered to her was staying connected to the opportunities available in her community.

Ten pounds of old electronics becomes one working computer for a family that needs it.

That’s the whole mechanic behind the tech drive we ran in Aurora, Colorado. People brought in the tech that had been sitting in their closets, and 100 laptops went home with Housing Authority families the same day, each with a backpack, school supplies, and a hot meal.

Making it easy for people to do good is the whole reason it ran inside an AT&T store. You walk in, drop off what you weren’t using, and know exactly where it’s going.

Your old laptop isn’t junk. It’s somebody’s job search, somebody’s homework, somebody’s fresh start.

Somebody bought you your first computer. You probably still remember whose it was.

Not every kid gets that. Human-I-T puts computers, internet, and the training to use them in the hands of people who’ve been going without.

Send this to the person who bought you yours. 💻

“New opportunities.” That’s how one kid described what a laptop of their own would mean.

At the Boys & Girls Clubs of Emerald Valley in Eugene, 100 kids wrapped up their summer program and went home with a computer that belongs to them.

And they weren’t only thinking about themselves. “It’ll definitely mean a lot to me and many other people.”

That’s the part worth holding onto. A computer at home changes studying, working, and staying connected to the people you care about, and it rarely changes things for only one person.

A laptop by itself isn’t the whole answer, so training, support, and a one-year warranty come with every device.

The laptops came through our partnership with AT&T and Boys & Girls Clubs of Emerald Valley.

If you know a kid who’d do something real with a machine like this, pass it along.

There’s more coming. 💻

Time is running out.

Human-I-T is eBay’s featured charity for Give at Checkout through Sunday. If you’re placing an eBay order in the next few days, the donation option is already sitting on your checkout page with our name on it — no searching required.

We’re trying to clear $7,000 this time around. The last two years we came in just under that — and we’d like to smash through it.

That number doesn’t come from one big gift. It comes from thousands of people adding a dollar or two to a purchase they were already making. Yours is one of them, and it’s the reason a laptop gets to someone who’s been going without one.

And it doesn’t have to end Sunday. Anyone who favorites Human-I-T on eBay keeps us on their checkout page year-round.
