MAC USERS:
Apple has announced a release date for their latest operating system, macOS 27 Golden Gate. It will become available on Monday, 14 September.
As is always the case, I recommend that regular users DO NOT upgrade to the latest operating system right away. Give Apple some time to work out initial bugs, give third party developers time to make sure their software and drivers work with the new operating system, and give techs like myself time to figure out what works, what breaks, and how to fix it.
I typically recommend that users wait for the "point one" update (in this case, macOS 27.1) before they upgrade. This will usually be five or six weeks out from the initial release, so likely around 26 October.
I also watch the forums to see which software does and does not work properly with a new OS. Adobe products, QuickBooks, and professional audio and video editing suites usually take a while longer to be updated and patched for a new OS. If your work and livelihood depends on a particular software, PLEASE WAIT to upgrade your operating system until you know that your software is ready.
This advice is not limited to Mac users. Windows and Linux users should follow the same advice: Don't upgrade your operating system until you know that the important tools you use are ready. iOS and Android phones and tablet users should also wait a few weeks to install a new OS.
This DOES NOT mean you should never upgrade your operating system. Just please wait until you're certain everything is ready before you do.
