Responsible development starts by noticing what others might overlook.

While preparing our ATL5 site in Atlanta, we discovered Georgia asters growing on the property.

They are a protected species, and they play an important role in the local ecosystem by supporting pollinators at a specific time of year.

We could have treated that discovery as a complication.

Instead, we treated it as a responsibility.

We brought in environmental experts from Kimley Horn to understand the impact of the project, carefully relocate the asters, and then create a pollinator-friendly habitat where they could continue to grow undisturbed.

The work did not stop there.

Our teams also helped create water-wise landscaping and a native wildflower garden designed to support bees, butterflies, and other pollinators long after construction is complete.

That matters because building infrastructure is about contributing to a community while also thoughtfully caring for what is already part of it.

We are growing, building, and supporting the digital world, but that growth should still leave room for the ecosystems and communities around us to thrive.

That is what responsible development looks like to us.

Career paths are often shaped long before the first job interview.

They're shaped the first time someone sees what's possible.

That was the real impact of this visit.

For many students at the Culpeper Technical Education Center (CTEC), this was more than a tour of a data center. It was the first time they experienced the scale of modern digital infrastructure, saw how electricity powers the digital world, and connected the skills they're learning today to careers they never knew existed.

One of the most powerful moments was seeing their curiosity turn into excitement.

Questions became conversations.

Conversations became possibilities.

That's why partnerships between education and industry matter.

Students can't pursue careers they've never been exposed to. Sometimes all it takes is one experience to completely change how someone thinks about his or her future.

The future workforce doesn't begin with a job application.

It begins with opportunity.

Backup generators are one of the most misunderstood parts of data center operations.

In a recent interview with NPR/Denver, our Senior Director of Sustainability Jenny Gerson explained how backup power systems are actually used, how often they operate, and the environmental standards facilities are required to follow.

A few important realities:

• Many data centers rarely, if ever, need to rely on backup generation outside of testing

• Most generator testing happens under little to no load, which significantly limits emissions

• Facilities must comply with strict air quality and emissions regulations tied to their operating permits

• Backup systems exist because critical infrastructure needs to remain online 24/7, even during grid disruptions

As AI and digital infrastructure continue to grow, conversations around resiliency and sustainability are becoming increasingly important to understand in full context.

The biggest talent challenge isn't finding skilled workers.

It's helping future ones discover the industry in the first place.

For many students at the Culpeper Technical Education Center (CTEC), this was more than a tour of an active construction site. This was their first look inside an industry that could be their future.

Through our partnership with CTEC, students in the electricians program experienced firsthand how the skills they're learning in the classroom translate to careers in digital infrastructure.

They explored an active data center construction site, shared their hand-constructed data hall models, and received real-world feedback from the people building the next generation of critical infrastructure.

One student described the experience as "mind-blowing."

Another said it sparked an interest in pursuing a career in construction.

That's the lasting impact of connecting education with industry.

When students can see what's possible, they can begin building a future they may never have imagined.

Many people assume data centers constantly consume large amounts of water.

In many modern facilities, that's not how the cooling system works.

Our closed-loop cooling systems continuously recirculate the same water-glycol mixture rather than drawing fresh water for ongoing operation, similar to how a car radiator works.

To put it into perspective, all six of our Utah data centers combined use less water than a single golf course.

DataBank announced today that Raul Martynek will transition to Executive Chairman and Kevin Ooley will become CEO, effective January 1, 2027.

Raul has led DataBank since 2017, overseeing its growth from a regional provider into one of the largest private data center platforms in the U.S., expanding from 6 data centers to over 70 across 25+ markets and growing revenue from ~$50M to over $1B. That foundation doesn’t happen without steady, deliberate leadership over many years.

Kevin Ooley joined DataBank in 2011 as CFO and has served as President since 2017. He’s been central to the financial strategy and capital partnerships that made the company’s growth possible.

As the demand for digital infrastructure increases, DataBank enters this next phase with experienced leadership and a clear path forward.
