Headed to New Mexico a week ago: a bit of retreat, a bit of work. The landscape is full of surprises: miles of desert give way to green fields and farms. Driving north of Albuquerque, I faced a wall of gray, sky and mountains indistinguishable, pierced by lightning. This is the calm after the storm.
