NTFS, APFS, ext4, ZFS: Why Your Files 'Disappeared'

Your files don't vanish — they're just hidden behind a file system
that stopped talking to you.

🗂️ NTFS (Windows) — Crash, improper shutdown, or a failing drive
can corrupt the Master File Table. Windows then shows an "unformatted"
drive — while your data sits perfectly intact behind it.

🍏 APFS (macOS) — Modern Macs use APFS with snapshots and
containers. A failed macOS update or disk utility mistake can make
volumes disappear. Recovering APFS requires understanding its
copy-on-write structure — most tools don't.

🐧 ext4 / ZFS (Linux & NAS) — Your Synology, QNAP, and custom NAS
run on these. A pool import failure or superblock issue can render
everything invisible while the data remains on the drives.

⚠️ The common trap — "The drive needs to be formatted!" is almost
always the wrong answer. Formatting writes new metadata over the old,
