Well hello! I am back with another post featuring some work that never made it to final. This one seemed timely. :) I got to work on some word marks for Puerto Rico tourism several years ago (not too much time after we had to cancel a trip to Rincón that I am still crying about... but it's ok because it was because my wife got hired at the Public Theatre to be in a show. WOO). The brief was to create some logos based on the lettering and signage of the region (which we got to see some cool examples of this past weekend during the "very controversial" half time show). So here are some quick explorations I did based on the brief. Hope you all are having a good week!

BEHOLD! A glorious pile of unseen Broadway rejects! 🎭✨

When my wife and I first rolled into NYC in 2008, I landed a freelance gig at — an incredible ad agency that does Broadway theatre campaigns. (Still remember my first day... around 2pm I thought "uh is anyone going to take a lunch break?" No... no they weren't. lol. Wasn't always like that but that worried me ha.) That “quick freelance job” turned into four years of late nights, wild ideas, and more show logos than I can count.

That first year was… let’s just say character building (fresh off the boat from Texas and tossed straight into New York advertising chaos — yeah 😅). But once I found my footing, I got to work with some of the most talented people I've ever known.

Every now and then, some of those folks still call me up for projects, which is awesome. I’ve been sharing a bunch of work that never saw the light of day, and instead of spamming your feed with 37 posts of “the Broadway that could’ve been,” here’s a little highlight reel.

Forever grateful for that wild, caffeine-fueled, Broadway chapter — and for all the legends I got to call coworkers and friends.

HUZZAH! Taking a break from posting unused work to show some fun artwork I got to make for a crazy new ren faire musical, ! Huge thanks to the folks at for the great assignment. Fun seeing how the team exploded the art into some really fun merch. :)

Onward to another project that never saw the light of day! RABBLE CO.! Like a lot of work we do as designers, this one had tons of heart behind it but never made it out into the world. Such is the nature of our beloved business.

About 4–5 years ago, I was hired to explore a concept called Rabble Co. — a restaurant in Oak Cliff with multiple sub-brands under one roof: a coffee shop, brewpub, bagel bakery, and maybe even a deli... we'll never know. But, the name felt perfect for the eclectic mix of offerings and Oak Cliff characters it would attract. We built a playful logotype using Borough Gothic and turned its counters into shapes for a cast of quirky illustrated faces — the “rabble” itself. I even got to start on some coffee packaging before the project shifted directions. This represents just the beginning of all the work that was planned... lots of custom packaging, signage, the WORKS!

Super bummed it didn’t happen, but that's ok. Still proud of the work and happy to finally show it after all this time.

Found another old project that never saw the light of day that I want to post but taking a minute to get it all together.. so posting this old painting I made several years ago (I think for a Ford thing?) I am in the middle of turning a big page in my career… getting ready for what’s next… whatever that exactly looks like… but I know it will involve more painting! This is a small painting and didn’t take very long but there is something about having a piece live in the real world that I am totally craving right now. My pal has been making some beautiful paintings lately and I love that I am seeing several friends getting real brushes and real paints out again. Is a movement resurfacing? I hope so. People like and have been a source of inspiration for me. Putting work out there that lives in the real world.. that you have to go stand in front of to really appreciate. More of that! Grateful for this life I get to live. Want to make the most of it.
