Well, this is one way to be off grid....
I get a lot of questions about being "off grid" and not being connected to anything.
I wish that I had a good answer.
The reality of 2026 is that there really is no way to have a computer and be "off grid".
Let's look at some of the things that people use their personal computers for...
Email.... ONLINE
Shopping... ONLINE
Banking... ONLINE
Websites... ONLINE
Games... ONLINE
Streaming... ONLINE
Social Media... ONLINE
Now let's look at the things that you use your computer for that work without an internet connection...
????????????????????????????????
Most things now must be online in order to work. so going "off grid" is not really possible.
Even the new Windows 12 will REQUIRE and internet connection to even work.
At my home, our lights, air conditioning systems, cameras, alarm, and even my garage door are all online and need that connection.
Yes, I can still press the button in the garage to open the door, but the app I have makes sure the door is closed every night without me even thinking about it. Just like the my air conditioning app makes sure the house is always the temperature I want it to be and my sprinkler app checks the weather then decides how long to water the yard for.
I am a member of a few "prepper" groups and "homesteading" groups here on Facebook and everyone wants to be "off-grid" and claim that they could survive just fine without any connection to the outside world.
Ok... no power, tv or internet.. I've done it for several weeks at a time post hurricane, but to be honest, it was not fun.
I need my Facebook fix and the ability to lay in bed, call up an app and have my coffee brewing before I get to the kitchen.
For the most part, technology is progress. I chose to embrace it.
