In this flight test at Fowler Park, iVue Robotics Founder, Jacob Andrews, and lead electrical engineer, Gerardo Salinas, take a Develop Air mini out for a spin to test the new Holybro H-Flow sensor. They swapped out the old HereFlow for this all-in-one optical flow and rangefinder unit, and we're putting it through its paces.

Watch as we troubleshoot telemetry data in iVue RoboControl, switch over to Mission Planner to perform a mid-air "calibration dance," and push the drone to some surprising speeds. Later in the video, we dive deep into the parameter weeds in QGroundControl as we attempt to disable GPS arming checks for a fully GPS-denied flight. It gets a little messy, but that's drone development!

In this video, iVue Robotics Founder, Jacob Andrews takes the custom Develop Air HP out for its final flights before boxing it up and shipping it to a customer in Virginia.

Watch as Jacob walks through the entire pre flight checklist, from connecting to QGroundControl and mapping out an automated photo capture survey mission, to dealing with some real world app glitches. Jacob also dives into the FPV settings to configure the thermal camera, showing you how to get side by side visual feeds and accurate temperature readouts working flawlessly. It takes a few reboots and some troubleshooting, but Jacob made sure everything was locked in before this custom build leaves the shop for the last time.

iVue Robotics Founder, Jacob Andrews, and lead Electrical Engineer, Gerardo Salinas, are back out at Fowler Park to test a Develop Air mini with an H-Flow optical flow sensor. If you have been getting a "Need Position Estimate" pre-arm warning which prevents your drone from arming in Loiter flight mode, you are not alone.

In this video, Gerardo and I break down why this happens: the optical flow rangefinder has a minimum reading distance of 8cm. If your drone sits lower than 8cm on the ground, the sensor cannot get a proper reading, causing the arming failure. Jacob and Gerardo demonstrate the problem live in Mission Planner, showing a quick workaround to get in the air, and put the drone through some erratic flight testing to make sure the brand new top cover stays securely in place.

If you are dealing with similar optical flow sensor bugs, hopefully, this clears up the issue for you too.

In this penultimate look at the Develop Air HP, iVue Robotics Founder, Jacob Andrews is back at the drone park for some field testing. After accidentally leaving the MK32 touchscreen controller behind, Jacob pivots to show you how versatile a DIY build can be.

Watch as Jacob bypasses the traditional controller and pilots this custom SIYI ZT6 thermal camera rig using a standard PlayStation gamepad and the iVue RoboControl app. Jacob walks through the "nerdy developer moves" in QGroundControl to check the satellite links and clear out mapping missions, then switches over to iVue RC to test out the newly updated arming UI and in-app gimbal controls. If you have ever wondered why you should build your own drone instead of buying off the shelf, this incredibly smooth, stable flight—done thousands of dollars cheaper than some proprietary alternatives—speaks for itself.

In this "undercover" flight test, iVue Robotics Founder and Lead Electrical Engineer, take the Develop Air mini into a GPS-denied parking garage to test out its Loiter flight mode. Without GPS, the drone relies heavily on its optical flow sensors and rangefinder to hold its position—but things don't go exactly as planned!

Watch as we battle uncalibrated sensors, sloped concrete, and highly reflective surfaces that confuse the optical flow. We discuss the technical challenges of indoor autonomous flight, set a manual EKF origin on the fly, and compare Loiter mode against Altitude Hold to see which performs better in this tricky environment.

In this flight test at Fowler Park, iVue Robotics Founder, Jacob Andrews, and Lead Electrical Engineer, Gerardo Salinas, take a Develop Air mini out to compare the differences between standard GPS position hold and the H-Flow (Optical Flow) sensor. Using the iVue RoboControl (iVue RC) app connected to Develop Air mini via a Bluetooth mLRS module in the Radiomaster Boxer Tx, Jacob was able to swap positioning modes mid flight to demonstrate how each system handles hovering, drifting, and braking.

Jacob and Gerardo also dive into the rangefinder capabilities of the H-Flow sensor, pushing Develop Air mini higher to find its maximum accurate readout limit (spoiler: we get it over 65 feet!). Finally, we wrap up with a slightly rough landing that puts our high-quality build materials to the test.

In this video, iVue Robotics Founder, Jacob Andrews, hits the field with Jewel, an attendee of Verticon, to give her a hands on first flight with the Develop Air base model.

Jacob walks through the entire setup process, from attaching the color coded propellers to connecting Develop Air to the iVue RoboControl software using an mLRS radio and standard video game controller. Jewel shares her candid thoughts on how flying the Develop Air Line of Sight (LOS) compares to her experience flying DJI drones with a live video feed. They also push the boundaries of the iVue RC app by testing out a geofence (with some unexpected results), mapping out an autonomous waypoint mission, and discussing the possibilities of 4G LTE Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) flying and payload deliveries.

Will Jewel miss her DJI collision avoidance and camera feed, or will the Develop Air win her over? Watch to find out!

In this field test at Denmark Drone Park, iVue Robotics Founder, Jacob Andrews, and lead electrical engineer, Gerardo Salinas, dive into the nuances of Arducopter positioning systems. They compare the real-world performance of GPS-based positioning against Optical Flow and Rangefinder (using the H-Flow sensor), and finally, a combined EKF3 source that utilizes both.

Watch as we experiment with different EKF (Extended Kalman Filter) configurations in Mission Planner to see which provides the sturdiest loiter and most responsive flight characteristics for the Develop Air mini. Whether you’re flying in GPS-denied environments or looking for maximum stability outdoors, understanding these sensor source parameters is key to mastering your Arducopter build.
