We will soon publish the honey story for this year's sourwood. In the mean time, here is last year's sourwood story for you to see what that looks like: https://pro.hivetracks.com/s/harvestprofile/0cba84e6-0a31-4a35-8bd1-2329395d7c2d

Late winter is about understanding where your colony is right now. 🐝🧐

By this point, stores are at their lowest, winter bees are tired, and brood rearing is beginning again. That overlap is why timing matters.

A simple check-in now helps you:
• assess food availability
• gauge population strength
• spot early brood activity
• plan feeding and inspections with confidence

What you notice at the end of winter sets the tone for the whole season ahead. 🐝

Before landscapes look green again, bees are already working 🌿🐝

Early spring forage provides the pollen and nectar needed to restart brood rearing and rebuild colony strength, especially after a long winter.. 🌼

Knowing what blooms first helps you understand what’s fueling your bees right now.

Snow can feel harsh, especially when you’re watching hives wait out the cold.

But beneath that frozen surface, the system is quietly doing its work: insulating soil, protecting roots, preserving microbes, and setting up the conditions bees will rely on in the months ahead.

Winter doesn’t stop the cycle.
It steadies it. 🐝❄️

What does it mean when pollinators are granted legal protection?

In parts of the Peruvian Amazon, local governments have taken a landmark step by formally recognizing stingless bees as having the right to exist and thrive in a healthy environment.

These bees are vital pollinators for rainforest plants and food crops, and they hold deep cultural and spiritual significance for Indigenous communities who have stewarded them for generations. Under the new ordinances, people can now legally advocate on the bees’ behalf when their habitats are threatened.

This decision is part of the growing global “rights of nature” movement and challenges conventional approaches to conservation. It raises important questions about how biodiversity is protected, whose knowledge is prioritized, and how legal systems can better reflect ecological realities.

A thoughtful read for anyone interested in pollinators, Indigenous-led conservation, or environmental policy.
